Sunday, June 19, 2005 I took Aaron to Donuts Delite today for Father's Day. It was bittersweet, because we recently learned that Donuts Delite will be closing it's doors at the end of the month. The shop was full of folks getting one last donut. I heard the owner chatting with a customer. He said he just couldn't keep up with the new openings of Tim Hortons, Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kremes. He sighed as he looked around at all the people and said "Where have they all been?" Sad. I like mom & pop shops, particularly those places where it takes personal attention to turn out the good stuff. They're all disappearing, slowly, but surely. It makes me feel melancholy and anxious. Around here (and I'm sure everywhere else) all our little coffee houses are closing because of Starbucks. On a totally different note, you look really nice in pink. And the donuts look better than what you'd get at the chain stores. You should get a set of those coffee mugs when they go out of business. Collectors items for sure! It is so sad to see choice and diversity being eliminated by big corporations.
