"Soooo tell me about yer day... "

Somewhat along the lines of forcing bulbs (which I have on my 2011 to do list) I got an amaryllis bulb back in November.

It didn't do anything for a long time and I thought I had a dud. Then all of a sudden it popped up and inched along a bit each day.

This week it finally burst into bloom! So cool - I want to grow more next winter!
Aaron and I went snowtubing today.
"Are you for tubing?" (play off of a line in Along Came Polly)
Remember when I blogged about one ingredient ice cream made from frozen bananas? My friend Peggy emailed me a link to a kitchen tool that makes it! Yonanas!

I am a big fan of Alton Brown but there is one thing we disagree on - unitaskers. I get a kick out of them and I am intrigued by this one.

They make it look so simple! A little odd looking, but easy! This has got to have some oomph, because even my food processer starts to overheat a bit pureeing those frozen bananas. Oooooh it's tempting!

Hi! Hi there! Hello! I like the snow! I'm perfect for Rochester! Hi!

Rudy is a 1-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs 63 pounds. He came to Lollypop Farm in November because his previous owner had too many pets. Rudy has tons of energy, and doesn’t seem to mind the cold one bit! He loves to chase frozen tennis balls, catch snowflakes on his tongue, and just race through the snow. Training would be a great idea for Rudy to help him polish his doggie manners, and you’ll receive a discount on your first six-week class at Lollypop Farm! A home with children over the age of 6 is recommended. If you’re interested in meeting Rudy, bring the whole family out Lollypop Farm, including any dogs in the household to make sure everyone gets along. Please consider giving this loving boy a warm home to call his own!
Rogue, the cat from last week, is still waiting to be adopted.
Me and my peeps have been getting together one night a week for girls night out and this week we decided to have a craft night. What did we make? Flash back to 2002 and one of my earliest craft projects - painted light bulbs.

They are easy to make, don't take forever and works well with a group. We had a lot of fun!

I was surprised at how this flame one looks when lit up! I love the pattern on the wall.

You just need lightbulbs, some liquid "lead" and glass paint. I have the step by step instructions on my old project page.

We let Aaron paint one light bulb and look what he did. Boys!

I was on a self imposed post holiday buying freeze when a walk past the dollar bins at Target did me in. Look at all the cute holiday stuff they have for such a deal! Owls, birds, cupcakes... all my favorite things. Plus heart shaped measuring cups and spoons which are great because someone who I won't name broke one of each previously.
I also got the heart shaped ice cube trays for making heart shaped crayons some day. I did this when I was a kid with all my broken crayons and cupcake wrappers. Good times.

Today was Anaya's birthday and next Saturday is Lauren's so we celebrated both at our house this evening. You gotta have lots of pink for two lil girls' birthdays.

Happy birthday girls!

I'm on a branch forcing kick. I spotted these curly willow branches at Wegmans. They are kinda big but I wrestled them into the house anyhow.

Branches!

Aaron and I finished our second annual New Year's food detox. He made some pretty yummy juices each morning. This one looks scary but his green monster juice is tasty.

To wrap up detox we caved and got a treadmill. I've had a few people mention how theirs became a clothes hanger or a kitty litter box platform. I'm determined to not let that happen. Despite the lazy kitty lounging on it.

If Rogue is like another kitty I know he would make an excellent addition to any home office as a paper wieght. "Oh is that a pile of paper work? How about I lay on it?"

Meet Rogue, a 1.5 year old male tiger cat. He was brought to Lollypop Farm in November because his owners felt they weren’t giving him the time and attention that he deserves. This lucky boy is living it up in an office here at Lollypop Farm. He’s been very helpful putting files away, keeping a watchful eye on the comings and goings of people outside his office, and by keeping the chair warm for his office mate while they are gone. Rogue is very vocal, especially when he’s hungry or wants attention. He was introduced to a dog and cat and didn’t seem to mind them at all. He would do best in a home with older children because he’s very adventurous and doesn’t like to sit in one place for long…unless it’s a fort that he made out of a blanket! Come meet Rogue today!
Billy, the dog from last week, is still waiting to be adopted.

Aaron and I are doing our New Years 4 day food detox program again. That means 4 days with no sugar, wheat, dairy, eggs, caffine, or processed foods. When it comes to having a sweet tooth that doesn't leave a lot of choices. Luckily I had heard about one ingredient ice cream - frozen banana ice cream!

It really is one ingredient and so easy. You just peel and chop up some bananas and let them in the freezer a few hours.

Then you puree them in a food processor.

I was so surprised to see they pureed into a smooth, creamy concoction a lot like frozen custard.

I made another batch and threw in some frozen strawberries.

Faux strawberry ice cream!
When detox is over I am going to try adding honey and peanut butter!

I had seen these Puppy Tweets gadgets online that let your dog send tweets and thought they were funny. Lo and behold they were on clearance at Target after Christmas so we got one for Oscar and Hugo. Oscar has been tweeting up a storm, but it's a little big for Hugo. I did set up Hugo's twitter account though. : )

We had a lot on our to do list this weekend. Aaron built me some shelves for a long cupboard in the kitchen that I just had boxes of odds and ends stuffed in. Hugo tested them out for us.

Our upstairs light went kaput and we had to replace it, so we found a really sparkly one!
Productive weekend.

#2 on my list of things to do in 2011 was forcing bulbs. I've also heard of forcing branches so when I saw some forsythia branches at Wegmans I got them. It took several days but they finally bloomed. A little bit of spring in our living room.

I have been waiting a long time for this, but it's finally back! They are making butter at Pittsford Dairy again! Not only are they making salted and lightly salted but they have CINNAMON SUGAR BUTTER! Ahhhhh! How good will that be on toast?!
No resolutions this year. Just cool stuff I want to do.

2. force bulbs
3. make a good homemade chicken soup

5. bake bread

6. make a quiilt - even a mini quilt

10. take a letterpress class

Love his spotty nose!
Meet Billy, a super sweet 2-year-old Terrier/Pit Bull mix. He was brought to Lollypop Farm because his owner was having personal problems that left her unable to care for a dog any longer. He weighs a solid 40 pounds – and has a strong personality to match! He knows “sit” and takes treats very gently. Consistent training and positive reinforcement will help him improve all of his doggie manners. Due to the fact that he gets pretty excited when playing, he needs to go to a home with children over the age of 12. This dog with the spotted nose has been waiting to find a family to call his own since November, so how about coming out to meet him? Bring the entire family, dogs included, and see if he just might be the right boy for you!
Bootsie, the cat from last week, was adopted!
