Lemonade/Limeade

I'm on a juice kick. I got out my mortar and pestle and made strawberry basil lemonade.

For Memorial Day I made blackberry sage limeade.

The limeade went well with our Memorial Day cookout!

Veggie Plant Labels

Turns out my letter punches work really well with these plant markers.

It didn't take me long to pound out labels for all my veggies.

Now I know what everything is in my garden.

Square Foot Gardening

I got my veggie plants, my seeds and my copy of square foot gardening. All set to plant. Well, I veered from the instructions a little bit. I divided into 9 squares rather than 16.

This years planting - Aaron's rhubard, carrots, radish, shallots, garlic, asparagus, brussel sprouts, Abe Lincoln heirloom tomato, Chocolate Cherokee tomato, lettuce, beets, yellow squash, zucchini, butternut squash, acorn squash, eggplant and grape tomato. *phew*

America's Favorite Farmer's Market - Rochester!

i figured it's time to plant my garden this weekend so I met Aprille and Joel there for breakfast and some plant shopping. Did you know the City of Rochester Public Market was voted America's Favorite Farmers Market for 2010 (Large Market)?!

I had a breakfast taco that I have been thinking about for many weeks.

There was a lot of new stuff (well new to me) at the market that we checked out. Javas at the Market. Got an iced coffee there.

New Fiat - beep beep!

I love little cars and the latest one I have my eye on is all new Fiat.

Remember the old ones? The one on the right. So cute. Beep beep!

The new ones come as convertables too.

And you can add racing stripes.

I tried out the build your own Fiat. I like it in brown - it looks like a Hershey Kiss.

Pet of the Week

Hannah #12654366

Hannah is a 10-year-old female cat with a lovely grey and buff coat. She is a petite kitty, weighing in at just 6 pounds! Hannah was brought to Lollypop Farm in March, because her owner could no longer care for her. This gentle girl loves attention and gives little love nibbles to show her appreciation. Hannah is looking for a retirement home where she can keep you company while you enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. She is eligible for our Seniors-for-Seniors program, so approved adopters 60 and older can bring Hannah home free of charge! Since Hannah has been waiting patiently for a new home she is one of our Featured Felines: Purrfectly Patient. It's so nice of my pets to amuse me first thing in the morning.

Bike beauty shots

I have been pinning bikes on a bike board over on pinterest and after I got my birthday bike from Aaron I realized I needed a beauty shot of my new bike too.

So I loaded my bike basket up with newly bloomed peonys and posed it around the neighborhood. I really wanted to take pictures with Hugo in the basket but alas - he has grown too big to fit in it. I tried stuffing him in believe me. No go.

Bike Instagram!

I was getting some funny looks from my neighbors but it was worth it.

I did take it for a ride after the photoshoot.

It rides like a dream. I did constantly feel like the handlebars and seat were crooked because I was the one that put it together but other than that it's as smooth as buttah!

Peony blooms

Seemingly overnight my peonys bloomed.

These aren't the typical peonys that sprout from the ground each year, this is a woody bush that is present year round and the flowers bloom earlier than other peonys.

The blooms look great inside!

New beverages

Thanks to my friend Aprille's suggestion I tried Red Jacket Orchards Strawberry Apple Juice. I was instantly hooked. After that I was on to the Grape Apple Juice, Blackcurrent Apple Juice and Raspberry Apple Juice. I see on their website they have seasonal Rhubarb Apple Juice, which I really want to try.

While I'm on the topic of beverages I also discoverd the new Wegmans Sparkling Fruit Juice. I especially like the Peach Mango, but there is also Tropical, Apple Raspberry, Orange Tangerine. I like the little cans it comes in.

Pet of the Week

What a mix! Half Finnish and half Chinese! Sounds like she is a softee!

Kaylee is a beautiful 5-year-old Finnish Spitz/Chow Chow mix who weighs 40 pounds. She’s back at Lollypop Farm for a second time through no fault of her own. Her previous owner thinks she deserves more attention. Kaylee loves to get outside for a walk and considers anyone with a leash to be her new best friend. When given the opportunity, she enjoys being let off her leash to run freely. You won’t want to keep your hands off of her gorgeous, thick auburn coat! This smart cookie is a quick study and likes to learn new things. Children over the age of 12 are recommended. Kaylee might prefer to be the only pet in the household. Kaylee is keeping her paws crossed that she’ll soon find a forever home to call her own!

The sassy ladies over on one of the most creatively named blogs "The Cheddar Guppies Blog" listed Ljcfyi as one of their new found blogs. As a blog that has been around for 10 years I love that people still discover it anew.

New Zooey Deschael TV show!

I. am. so. excited! Zooey Deschanel is joining her sister (on Temperance Brennan on Bones) on FOX in a new comedy next fall called New Girl.

Jess Day (Zooey) is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn't. Although she's dorky and awkward, she's comfortable in her own skin. More prone to friendships with women, she's not used to hanging with the boys - especially at home.

Cool sponges

I found these really cool sponges from Casa Bella. Each one has a unique use.

There is a wine glass sponge - I like these because they are long for reaching into glasses.

Cube scrubber is taller than an average sponge so your fingernails don't hit the scrubby part.

Indoor grill sponge has ridges for your panini press etc.

Pet bowl sponge is shaped like a bone so you don't get it mixed up with your other sponges. It also helps encourage me to wash the critters bowls more often.

Chalkboard Jars

I am truly obsessed with chalkboard paint now. I made these jars for my flour and sugar.

It was very easy. My mom gave me these big jars for terrariums, but I wanted to try this. I used the edge of label sticker paper to create a block.

Then I just brushed on the chalkboard paint with a sponge brush. Easy peasy.

Hugo teeth

Hugo has a little bit of an underbite. It cracks me up sometimes when his teeth stick out.

Birthday bike

Aaron got me an awesome birthday present! A beach cruiser bike! It's so cute and will be perfect for tooling around the neighborhood.

The bike basket came first and I had put it on his tandem bike. He wasn't thrilled about it but it's now on it's proper spot.

Sadly it has rained all weekend so I haven't been able to take it round the block yet. But it looks nice in our foyer.
