Before going to LA, I am in San Diego today for a meeting.
Strange thing here... I was going to walk from my hotel, less
than a mile to the office building when the hotel staff completely
freaked out and insisted on calling the hotel shuttle. They said I
simply could not walk all that way. The whole two minute ride to the
office the driver kept saying... "Oh yeah... look at this... it's all
uphill!"
It really didn't look that far to me... sidewalks the whole
way. Kinda funny. But at least I was able to persuade the driver to
swing by Jamba Juice and In-n-Out Burger on the way back to the
hotel.
Are you going to be in California this weekend? Would you like
to go to a NASCAR race? Do you have an old inkjet printer sitting
around?
I am going to be at the Hollywood and Highlands Center Awards
Walk on Saturday from 11am to 3pm giving away free tickets to the
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Sharp AQUOS 500 race on Sunday, Sept. 2, at
the California Speedway in exchange for old printers.
The first 75 people that show up with an old printer will get
a pair of race tickets. All the printers will be recycled.
I think this is a great deal and I don't want any of the
tickets to go to waste! I want to trade them all away! Bring your
printer and spread the word! Put it on your blog! Tell your friends and
family!
Kodak Printer/Race Ticket Trade In Event
Saturday, September 1, 2007
11am to 3pm
The Kodak Theatre
Hollywood and Highland Center Awards Walk
6801 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA
The other night Aaron came home with a little container of
mini pez with a Norman Rockwell design on it. The US PEZ website is under
construction but I think they are for the 80th anniversary of PEZ.
I saw these chips in the check out line at Target. I knew Ming Tsai
made Blue Ginger gourmet food products for Target, but this was the
first I had seen the chips. They didn't have full size bags... just the
snack size. The Hot Tamari Rice Corn Chips are de-li-cious! I had to
buy five of the little bags.
Wegman's bakery is making these ridiculously cute sugar
cookies. Just makes me want to buy one of each. You gotta watch out for
that black icing on the ladybug's eyes though... it turns your mouth
black!
Do you love Wegmans? Or just wondering what all the hype is?
Then maybe you should check out welovewegmans.blogspot.com!
Garden update. We are swimming in tomatoes. Our heirloom Cherokee
Chocolates (left) and New Zealand Pink Pears (right) are ripening like
crazy. The zukes are pretty much over and there are some straggler
cukes. There are several acorn and butternut squash moving right along.
I think the real beauties of the garden this year are the striped
eggplant.
Aaron found this cat tie at Target for 75¢. I think it is
hilarious. I can't even look at Stewie when he has it on. He doesn't
mind it at all and I swear he struts around when he has it on. (for the
commenter who wondered how Oscar is doing, note he is there in the
background staring at his empty supper dish)
"Helloooo? Helloooo? Anyone out there? Could you come in and take this
silly thing off me?"
The last time my parent visited they brought me a cute wood
cupboard they got at an auction. I moved all my little knickknacks and
dishes over into it and placed some of my favorite vintage Pyrex pieces
in the vacated glass cupboard (actually a greenhouse from Ikea)
I have been excitedly sitting on this news for weeks. My
friend Sarah has opened a yarn shop! She and her mom bought the Village
Yarn Shop and moved it from Midtown to East Rochester. It is now called
The Village Yarn
and Fiber Shop!
Aaron and I helped out a couple nights before the
store opened... inventorying the enormous amount of yarn and stocking
shelves. It was all fun and I am so proud of them! It is the cutest,
coziest knitters haven. The Sit & Knitters have a new home!
We stopped by on their opening day to pet the yarn and buy a
few skeins. It really is fabulous and if you are a Rochester knitter,
you gotta go check it out!
In May I
found a cool cake carrier at a yard sale. When I posted the
picture to Flickr, someone informed me there was a bun
carrier out there too. I didn't find the exact matching one,
but I did find this bun warmer for $4. Close enough and who doesn't
like warm buns?
Aaron and I went to some flea markets this weekend with my parents and I had a
major score. I found a Fire King Egg Nog set for $12. It is missing two
mugs and the ladle but I think I may find those separately later
on.
I have been wanting some Fire King pieces but they are way
more expensive than my usual Pyrex pieces.
Aaron is especially excited because he loves egg nog.
Aprille brought in these delicious pastries from Genesee
Bakery called Tea Leaves.
Now I have had elephant
ears and beavers
tails, and that is what I though these would be like. Oh no.
They are a crispy puff pastry with a sugary glaze on top. They are
heavenly.
I have done some extensive googling and I cannot find anything
like them online. I briefly thought they might be like Palm
Leaves or Palmiers (also called elephant ears) but I don't
think they are.
I did however stumble upon Fried Coke
while I was searching so it was somewhat productive.
(almost simultaneously Aprille emailed me about Deep
Fried Pepsi... freaky)
You may have noticed how thrilled I was when Lady
M gave me
the stuffed jam bun for my cell phone. I was especially
excited because
my Chocolate phone is the first one I have had that has a spot for
attaching something.
Hello Kitty dressed as an animal or sitting on a mushroom.
Can't - stand - it.
Mini food for on your phone. If you don't mind seeing it all
day and getting hungry.
Miffy, close second in cuteness to Hello Kitty. And check out
this real live mini plant you can hang on your cellphone!
They also have these screen shields that I saw in Japantown in
San Fran. They are called Peep
Blocks and you put them on your cell
phone screen so someone looking sideways at your screen can't see what
you are texting. I don't think I need that level of secrecy, but they
are still cool.
I just ordered this t-shirt from Threadless.
It's called "skip dessert"... bah-hah! If you aren't familiar with
Threadless, it's really cool. [Users (professional illustrators and
amateurs alike) may submit t-shirt designs online, which are then put
to a public vote. A small percentage of submissions are selected to be
printed and sold through the online store. Creators of the winning
designs receive a combined cash and store credit prize.]- wikipedia
How cool is this? A dish
scrubber that you can blow bubbles with. I saw this and the
cupcake shirt on my new favorite site... Sugar.
My friend Joel sent me the link to these cool Apple stickers.
They are like window clings that you can put over the glowing apple
logo on your Mac. I like the fish bowl one.
We were at the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen today. Go Kodak
No.12!
Aaron and I went for a pace car ride, saw the car up close and watched
the pit crew during the race.
While the Kodak team is my favorite, me being me... I am
attracted to the cute mascots. It cracked me up to see Little Debbie's
mug on the hood of a car. The Hamburger Helper hand is awesome. Note
they are called The Helping Hand Pit Crew. Also loving Poppin' Fresh
the doughboy and Tony the Tiger.
The cool Zippo car was there and check out these Croc rides!
I saw these UPS trucks out back. A flame painted one, an old
one and one the size of a golf cart. Cute!
We got quite the haul today at our CSA farm. Several varities
of squash and beans, some cucumbers... and my favorite... sunflowers
and zinnias for my dining room table.
We also saw Ginger at the dairy. She is getting even bigger.
Must remember to bring her a granola bar next time.
Side note: found these on the yumsugar
site which then let me to all the other sugar sites... I am now
registered as ljc_sugar
and I am quite addicted to the site.
The smallest, quietest member of our household passed away. Torty died sometime last night.
I don't know what happened... we did notice recently he wasn't
eating as much and sleeping more, but it wasn't enough to be alarmed
at. It is hard to tell what a tortoise is thinking.
This morning, after giving Ernie some fresh water, I was
giving Torty some lettuce when I noticed he was gone.
It wasn't supposed to happen like this... he was twenty years
old, tops. Russian Tortoises are said to live to be 100. We used to
joke how we would have him when we were old and grey.
I am going through the guilt thing... I should have taken him
to the vet when he seemed off, I should have taken him outside more,
taken more pictures of him...
Weeks after everyone else got their Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows, I finally have mine.
I bought my first Harry Potter in London and all my copies
after that were the British versions. So even for the last installment,
I held back from going out at midnight to get a US copy. Aaron had a
hook up for the edition I wanted and he got it today.
The George Eastman House gave out 100 Ansel Rocks! t-shirts to promote
the Ansel Adams exhibit. There is even a flickr
group for picture of people in their t-shirts.
We just became members of the GEH. I don't know why we didn't do it
sooner. I really like going to The Dryden Theatre. Right now they are
running Audrey
Hepburn Wednesdays.
I went to the Park Ave Fest
with my friend Nancy and Aaron met us there. I came home with a vine
growy thingy, some lucky bamboo to replace some of mine that was
not-so-lucky and Aaron got me this necklace from the Crafty
Chicas.
About a month ago I got a Strawberry Chocolate. Then... a mere
four days before my 30 day exchange was up, I
realize
they have come out with a new Chocolate. I hot footed it to Verizon and
exchanged my phone for a new Black Cherry Chocolate. They made it
slimmer and improved the touch wheel.
What an improvement! I don't think I realized how annoying the
touch wheel on my
first
Chocolate was... lucky it was cute or it may have gone out a
window.
Of course a black cherry colored phone needs a case
to match.
Having texted on two new phones in one month, I am well familiar with
my most used words not recognized by the phone dictionary. Wegmans,
yummy, yum yum, scooter, ewww, awww, yikes, ugh, arghh, yay, blech, blah, bah hah, hee hee and
wow.
