10,000
I forgot to mention the most tragic incident of the weekend. It wasn't the deep freezer going kaput or getting my finger ruthlessly rolled up in a window like some poor souls. My car rolled over to 10,000 miles.
I guess I thought my car would remain forever young. Aaron was driving at the time and I wanted him to pull over for a
moment of silence. I think he was secretly pleased. He thinks I baby my car. Ok, so I don't like to turn on the air conditioning or
drive it in the snow. I wanted to keep my car new for as long as possible, so I made him drive us in his Jeep most of the time.
I hope he and is grubby ole Jeep are happy.

Corn
Someone set up a stand to sell corn outside of my apartment. I was so excited. 30¢ for one ear, $1.75 for 6 and $3 for a
dozen. I ran out and bought a half dozen for dinner.
I wish they had all sorts of veggies. And strawberries in the spring and apples in the fall. A farmer's market in my backyard.

Figs
I do not have two goldfish. I have two piggys disquised as goldfish. They want
to eat all the time! Piggy-fish!
I am not talking about a little nibble at the surface of the water when I pick
up their shaker of food. I mean they splash and scramble and roll over one another
bumping up against the glass when I merely walk by their bowl.
Smack smack smack, I can hear them sucking at the surface of the water as they
gobble down their food and swim in circles looking for more. I don't think I
can convey the level of frenzy that occurs when they see me peering into the
bowl.
I thought fish were supposed to be calming and docile creatures. Mine are like
wolves in a pit. I am convinced they are going to jump out and latch on to my
hand next.

Sunday
My fam had a crisis this weekend. Their deep freezer broke.
Doesn't sound like a big deal... except when you have an entire cow (over $500 worth of beef) in a 26 cubic foot freezer that
stopped running at an unknown time you potentially have a big mess or a big bbq for the entire neighborhood on your hands.
Luckily they they got a replacement up and running in time. That was the highlight of my visit home this weekend.

Saturday: The Big Scoop
Aaron and I made the trip to PA this weekend. We made our traditional stop at The Big Scoop just over the NY border. My
new favorite ice cream flavor is Butterscotch.
For those of you that don't know, The Big Scoop is a little ice cream shop in Lawrenceville PA. They aren't kidding, they give
you a BIG SCOOP, scoops bigger than your fist. And it is inexpensive... two huge scoops was $1.75.
Funny story... the first time we stopped at The Big Scoop, Aaron was beside himself with joy. You can get a cone with one
scoop or up to five scoops. I step up to the counter and order a two scoop cone. Aaron steps up to the counter and states in a loud
clear voice..."I will have the five scoop cone." There was a twittering of laughter in the line behind us. Now keep in mind these are
BIG SCOOPS. A five scoop cone would have been over two feet in height. He would not have been able to get in the car with it.
He would not have gotten out the door with it.
The ice cream lady looked at him with raised eyebrows, he blushed and then said..."Make that the three scoop."
One of these days he is getting the five scoop.

Head
Tingler
Joel got Lara a Head Tingler for her birthday. We originally saw them in Utah
at a body spa. It is a strange contraption with arms that you sort of skritch
at your scalp with.
Aaron and I were at their house last night and I got to try it. It was wonderful.
More wonderful than I let on. I was trying out Joel's new Aeron Chair. The chair
was nice...it was comfy...but I guess after the amount of praise Joel had been
giving it, I was expecting it to feel like a cloud. Don't get me wrong, it was
pleasant... I am not s**tcanning it. I think maybe I wasn't heavy enough to
get it to lean back the way Joel describes.
I digress. As I am sitting in the new office chair Aaron pokes at my head with
the Head Tingler. I can't explain it. All the little spindley arms sooth and
massage... I turned to pudding and nearly slipped off the unyeilding chair to
the floor. But I didn't... I just said "Oh that is nice".
I waited until we were in the car to exclaim "I NEED A HEAD TINGLER. I
MUST HAVE A HEAD TINGLER.".
I think it would make the clicking in my neck go away.

Why is whenever I hear the word pressure...I hear the song with the line "under pressure"? Actually I think it is sung as "unda presha". Who sings that song? (Oh...just asked Joel...it's David Bowie.)

Actually I wouldn't so much as say it is a fear as it is a general disgust and inclination of violence toward them. Just keep the clowns away from him.

Caterpillars
Several months ago, on my birthday, Aaron gave me a butterfly
rainforest . It didn't come with the caterpillars. He had to send a check
to Uncle Milton's Butterfly farm, and they would send the caterpillars.
Each day I expectantly checked my mailbox for the little guys. And each day
there was no sign of them. I was starting to think it was a cruel joke. I envisioned
Uncle Milton sitting on the beach in the Carribean ordering a tall cool drink
with our caterpillar money.
Then yesterday, the caterpillars arrived. (they flew in from California and
boy were their arms tired....that joke never grows old for me)
They are pretty grody looking right now. But soon...soon I will witness the
great miracle of the transformation of a butterfly...or so the pamphlet tells
me.

Comfy
I got my cell phone a chair at Old Navy. It is made of molded plastic kinda
like a rubber ducky. It looks like a little easy chair and my cell phone sits
right in it.
I guess I didn't really need it, but it was so cute. My cell phone enjoys it.
Only problem is, it gets so comfortable sitting in it, I forget to take it
with me. For the past two days I have been at work and my cell phone is at home
kickin' back in its little chair.
I brought the chair to the office with me, so the cell phone can sit in it
while I work. Joel seems determined to find other things sit in the chair. I
don't know how my cell phone would feel about that.

False Alarm Don't you know that after I recover from my panic attack at losing access to my images, upload a months worth to a new space and redirect all my image links... the original images pop back up...apparently the image host was not cutting me off, but merely had a minor problem this morning. Still doesn't explain why I could still see my images on the html pages I have on that server...maybe they are gearing up to cut me off. Such worries.

Where have you
been Miffy?
A little while ago, Aaron picked up a little box of cookies for me at the Asian
food store. He chose it because it had a little bunny on it and her name was
Miffy.
I thought she was really cute and assumed she was a new Hello Kitty character.
After some research I discovered I was very wrong.
Miffy first
appeared in 1955, making her 20 years older than Hello Kitty. Created by
Dutch artist, Dick Bruna, she is now the second most popular character in Japan,
(after Hello Kitty).
Why have I not seen her until now? Turns out there is scads of Miffy Merchandise
to be had. Everything from stickers to nightlights to rugs.
I need Miffy stuff.

Blast off!
Petunia wouldn't stop chewing on the wires of her cage. The fur on her nose
was wearing off, so Aaron got her a new cage. The plastic bottom goes up higher
so she can't reach the wire to chew on it. It also lots of tubes and things
she can crawl through.
Then he found the Space Station Habitrail set online. I love it! The lookout
tower is a little space rocket. The graphics on the packaging are hilarious!
Look at the hamster's little suit!
I want this for Petunia so badly. The current cage might have a little accident.

but it will be here just in time for our trip to Toronto so I am certainly not

After many
days of confinement in the cubicle hole of darkeness, Spidey Pez has been
rescued!
It was quite a task. We unscrewed the cubicle wall, removed it, and Jo stuck
her arm between the desks and with much tugging and twisting, pulled Spidey
Pez from the hole.
His head was a little scratched but otherwise Spidey Pez is doing well. It
was noted that he no longer had any Pez Candy in him. We assume he had to consume
his own innards to survive.

Phat Puppy, Phat Kitty
Two of my templates were chosen for the new Blogger Template section! One even won a book.
Mmmm...a book. I suppose I'll have to read that. I kinda wished I had won the "Macromedia ColdFusion Server". Joel asked me if I even know what that is. No...but it sounds better. "Hey...c'mon over and see my ColdFusion Server!" Nobody drops by to see a book. (Not that I am complaining about the book. The book is fine. I will read it and count it as training at work)
I was suprised to see that a few of the templates were broken or did not display correctly, maybe because I am on a Mac.
By the way...I hadn't named my templates "fat kitty" or "fat puppy", those were the names for the gifs...I guess they liked it.

One of my favorite gals on the web, Loobylu is back up! After reading her Wednesday 18th post, I am convinced life is much more exciting in Austrailia. There is no other way to explain why their "Big Brother" is so much better. Our first version was dull as dirt. Watching people floss their teeth and scratch the pug puppy was snoozeville. (I haven't seen BB2...perhaps it is riveting) Loobylu was glued to the telly for every episode. Did they release poisonous snakes into the contestants beds on their show?

Something Fishy
Yesterday we were walking around the office handing out the baseball tickets
for the picnic tomorrow when I spotted two fatty goldfish sitting on someones
desk. They looked so soothing. So calming.
I immediately had a desire for goldfish.
I used to have a tank with fancy goldfish...you know the freaky kind, bubble
eyes, celestial eyes, lion heads. I wasn't thinking anything that elaborate
this time. Just two fish and a big bowl with river stones. I already had the
bowl and stones. Just needed the feeesh.
So last night Aaron and I went fish shopping. We got an orange organda with
a white neck and a white organda with an orange forehead. I thought that had
some sort of fishy irony to it.
We named one Fish and the other Chips. Ha ha.

Corn Hill Festival
Today we went to the Corn Hill festival. I was overwhelmed by the presence of food, as you can see in my list of Top 10 Things to do at an arts/crafts festival.
Every year at these events there is one craft that everyone just has to have. It seems as though everyone is walking around clutching one. Last year it was weather vanes. The year before it was shepherds hooks. In case you were wondering, this year it was copper butterflys on a stake you stuck in the ground. It makes you feel as if you need one too. I think the vendors hire people to walk around with them to create a hype.

Saturday
I went for a manicure this morning. Therefore the rest of the day will consist of walking around with my fingers straight out and gesturing with my hands a lot so that I might admire my nails.
Good deed for the day
We were at Red last night to hear a few bands play. I noticed a girl with a Gap price tag still attached to the back of her dress. I know that sort of thing sucks, and I would hope someone would tell me if I had tp stuck to my shoe or such. But to be honest I was a little hesitant to tell her. She had on black fishnet stockings and military boot style Doc Martens....I could really envision her telling me it was supposed to be that way...like a statement on merchandising or capitalism or something.
I told her anyhow and she was most grateful. So much for my theory.
Click click
Today is day three of my neck making a clicking sound. Notice I didn't say anything for three days! I am trying my darndest not to be a whiner. Not that anyone has said anything...it was self-realization thing.
It clicks everytime I turn my head to the right. I made Tina listen to it, but she couldn't hear it. I made Aaron put his hand on the back of my neck, but he couldn't feel it. It is the slightest of clicks. Errrgh. It's going to drive me mad.

I couldn't
sleep last night.
With our new cubicle arrangement, there are spots where four walls meet, but
don't touch, creating a hole in the center. Tina knocked her Spiderman Pez Dispenser
into this hole.
There has to be a way to get him out. I can't stand that he is down there.
I am determined to get him out. Until I do... sleepless nights.
The problem is, he fell vertically, and when he hit bottom he somehow landed
horizontally and got his head wedged beneath the edge of the wall. Now when
I stick a dowel rod down there with poster putty on the tip, I can't get him
out. I have lost several wads of poster putty.
I tried getting at him from beneath, but our filing cabinets (attached to the
walls) are on each side. And no, we can't get the walls apart. You have to be
a trained cublicle wall technician to disasemble these walls.
Poor Spidey. Yes, one would think of all people Spidey would be able to get
himself out of there, but clearly he is weak and tired.
Tina suggested we throw down some food for him.

Caloric Intake
I made the Carmel Peanut Puffs last night. When I brought them into work, I
anticipated that Tina would declare them too fattening.
I headed her off at the pass by calculating the calories for one Caramel Peanut
Puff. I got a bit muddled trying to figure it out. 40 caramels per bag, a serving
size is 180 calories, 4 carmels is a serving size, I used about 35 caramels,
there was about 5 caramels worth of leftover carmel in the bowl, I coated 40
marshmallows.... it nearly gave me a headache.
I sucessfully determined that there are approx. 87 calories per Caramel Peanut
Puff.
Then Tina told me she doesn't like nuts.
I will have to consume 1200 calories worth of Carmel Peanut Puffs by myself.

Craftiness
Martha sent me another letter. Well, okay e-newsletter.
She wrote... Dear Jennifer, (that's
me!) Whether it’s dinner for two or a neighborhood get-together, outdoor entertaining
is an incomparable treat on these warm summer nights. Set the mood by hanging
a few pendulum lampshades— easy-to-make, elegant lanterns that softly illuminate
al fresco dinners without eclipsing the moon and stars above. Make several in
different shapes and sizes, and you’ll be well-equipped to create the perfect
atmosphere for any occasion, all summer long. - Martha
Brilliant! I must make several! You know...for when I am entertaining the neighborhood
with an al fresco dinner on a warm summer night.
I wonder what Martha would think of the bamboo divider jobbies Aaron and I
made this past weekend. We saw similar ones hanging in the window of Arena's
and realized we could make them too.
After wrestling with bamboo, rice paper and the hot glue gun, I think we made
a pretty nice little....divider....screen...thingy-ma-bob.

Marshmallow Goodness
Well Herman Miller didn't pick our office art as a winner, but I have forgiven
them. Especially when they provide such important information as how to make
Carmel Peanut Puffs.
Oh yessy. And it just so happens I am on a big marshmallow kick. I enjoyed
Greta's
diary entry about her marshmallow memories. I think this treat elevates
marshmallows to an even higher plain. If my coworkers are nice, I might make
them for work tomorrow.
Here are the ingredients...
14 oz pkg. carmels
3 tbsp. water
30 lg marshmallows (or 50 mini marshmallows if you are Greta)
1 1/2 cup chopped salted peanuts
then you....
Place caramels and water in 1 quart glass measure or casserole. Heat on full
power for 2 1/2 to 4 minutes or until melted. Stir half way through melting.
Dip marshmallows into caramel syrup, using toothpicks and roll to coat completely.
Roll in peanuts. Place on waxed paper. Let dry at room temperature. If syrup
gets thick add 1/2 teaspoon water, stir in and heat for 30 seconds or until
softened.
Delish!

Dance of
the fifty beelion veils
Tonight Bellydancing class starts again. This class we are learning a veil
dance. I can't wait to go buy my veil. It's all about the costumes you know.
Some people didn't understand what I meant by veil dance. Hasn't anyone heard
of Salome and the Dance of the Seven Veils? Of course no one will be beheaded
as a result of our dance though. I was searching online for a picture to illustrate
what will be going on and found this site called Bellydance
fun and frolic. It's pretty funny. I even found coloring pages of bellydancers.
I downloaded the one dancing with a veil and colored it in for your viewing
pleasure.

Sometimes I pack marshmallows for lunch. Everytime (it seems) I do, Joel tells me about how
you can make taffy out of a marshmallow by pulling it over and over.
I wasn't about to sacrifice a marshmallow to try it.
Then on the Fourth of July, Diane told me the same thing. At this point I had
to try it. So this evening after Aaron grilled bbq chicken and was getting out
the s'mores supplies, I took a marshmallow and started stretching and pulling
it. I was determined to make taffy. Pull pull pull. It did get smooth. And sticky.
But it just tasted like a smooth and sticky marshmallow.

What is there to do when it is rainy and dreary out? Shopping! There were lots
of post Fourth of July sales. Stores are getting rid of their summer stuff.
Target is even putting out their Back to School Supplies. Boy, that sucks if
you are a kid. No one needs to be reminded of back to school in the middle of
their summer vacation.
I got a couple goodies... at Target I got a Hello Kitty Fourth of July watch
for $2 and I finally sucumbed to Martha's Siren-like call and went to see the
"Keeping" stuff at K-mart. Each aisle was more delightful than the
last. I narrowed my purchases to one apothecary jar, one food container and
a box of matches. Yes! Martha matches! They come in a box striped with those
"Martha" colors. Even the tips are that patented Martha robin egg
blue. Ahhhhh. I even let Aaron use them to light the bbq grill.
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of other things to do on a rainy day other
than shopping.
Top Ten Activities for a Rainy Day.
snow?
Aaron and I were in Shifty's today and lo they were having their 40%
off sale. Yes, we each walked out with a snowboard. I got a Burton Troop and
he got a Burton Canyon. Mine is green with an anime-type girl throwing death stars on it. Kewl.
It's a hard thing to buy a snowboard in the middle of July. It felt strange,
but I am sure when the first snowflake falls we will be glad.
Ah yes. Only five or six more months.

is the same day they are giving Cal Ripken Bobble Heads out to the first 1000
kids.
I am plotting to arrive in a Barney t-shirt to pass myself off as an 8 year
old.
Earlier this week Tina and Abby went to a Dido concert. They reported that
the opening act, Emiliana Torrini had an odd way of dancing. Tina is convinced
it is because she is half Icelandish. Since Icelander Bjork also dances peculiarly,
there must be something to that.
I like her song "Unemployed in Summertime" but we can't seem to
get past her awkward dance style. Apparently she crosses her arms in front of
herself and bobs her head up and down.
Maybe they should have been handing out Emiliana Bobble Head Dolls at the concert.

That's it. I can't take the pressure anymore. Tina really doesn't like being at the bottom of the flog list. Seeing that it is alphabetically arranged, she is plotting to change her name to "Aaaah".
I am moving her up before such measures need to be taken.

Tuckered Out
Boy am I pooped. I am more pooped from a day off work than from a day of work.
It's that burny eyed, dry mouth, spent the day at an amusement park wet, driving
in home in the car tired kind of feeling.
Yesterday was great. After Aaron had so kindy staked out a spot at the park
in the morning, fifteen of us came along and plopped down for an Independence
Day picnic.( I heard that the term "picnic" was somehow politically
incorrect...must look into that.)
The fact that we alternated between chowing down and participating in such
rigorous activties as Bocce Ball, Badmitton and Frisbee, may be the cause of
our exhaustion. Being out late after watching fireworks probably added to the
poopedness also.
I am just glad I had the opportunity to make my American Flag Jello Mold my
mom got me. Isn't it glorious? Pretty tasty too. It's not a holiday without
Jay-Eee-El-El-Oh!

Rejection
I got an email today from the Heman Miller people that had the office art contest...
"Thank you so much for participating in our Office Supply Creation contest.
Your creation was unfortunately not chosen among our finalists, but we do appreciate
you sharing your creativity with us."
Drat. I thought we would at least win a t-shirt. We will ill prepared though.
We found out about the contest the day before the deadline, our curtain and
pillar were disasembled for moving and I only had small 150 x 150 pixel images
to send them. I think if we had more time to plan we could have done a better
job. *sigh*
I'm not holding it agains the Herman Miller people though. I really like some
of the stuff on their site. I actually tried their cable control method.

Behind
my televsion were the cables to the VCR, DVD, Super Nintendo, cell phone charger,
stereo, video rewinder and a lamp. They are now all neatly reined in using this
clever set up.

Lists
My online dream journal didn't seem to generate much interest and I stopped
updating it. This weekend I was looking at some of my past blogs and found a
few of the Top Ten Lists I have posted in the past. Top Ten Things, at
Winterlude, at
Matt's Mardi Gras Party, etc.
Those worked out well so I decided that the dream journal could turn into Ljc's
Top Ten Lists.
Along with Kristen,
I am a big lister. I have a special app on my handspring just for lists. Lists
of movies to see, videos to rent, shoes to buy, I make lists for packing, for
shopping, for gifting. It is only right I have a List site.
Yesterday Daniella
blogged about the similiarities between Heidi and I. I have to admit they
are a bit unsettling. I have heard that Heidi is upset...feeling that she is
no longer one of a kind. Tina insists we are unique...it just that there is
an east coast version and west coast version.
Growing more curious about Heidi I went and looked at her website, angryheidi.com.
Guess what is on it? A top ten list.
I was hesitant to proceed with my Ljc's Top Ten List. I mean...she is angry
enough. I would hate for her to feel a need to annihilate her east coast clone.
I am going ahead with the plan. Let's all remember that imitation is the sincerest
form of flattery. For my first post, I will list the Top
Ten Things That Heidi Couldn't Possibly Have in Common with Me.

The Bunny
Project
Someone started posting anti-bunny posters around Rochester. Aaron grabbed
one on Friday. While on one hand I am disturbed to see a cute little bunny mutilated,
I am also pleased to see that the concept has been carried a step further.
On Friday, Joel also called the D and C and asked them if they had any idea
what the bunny posters meant. By coincidence they ran an article on "The
Bunny Project" in the living section on Sunday. Apparently there are a
lot more posters I need to get my hands on. There are "newsletters"
and business cards out and about. Bunny fliers were placed on parked cars downtown
last week.
The D and C reporter wrote that she tracked down a guy that had been delivering
some of the posters. He said he saw the bunny posters in Orlando, Florida and
brought them to Rochester. This does not solve the mystery. The posters were
here before he began posting them and he isn't responsible for many of today's
posters.
He doesn't know what they mean either. The mystery continues.

Car Games
Joel will be relieved to know that Aaron and I's car game that disturbed him
so much ("What Would Be the Most Painful Thing", derived from "So
I Married an Axe Murderer") has been replaced.
The new game is called "Bad Speller". One person picks a word and
the other tries to spell it in the worst possible way. For example.... bunny...b-u-n-k-n-e-e,
juice...j-o-o-s-e.
Ok, so it doesn't sound that exciting, but when you have been on the road for
five hours it is hysterical.

Those Google people crack me
up. They did a nice little design for Canada Day. I didn't even know it was
Canada Day. I feel bad. I am so ethnocentric. I was focused on what to grill
on the Fourth of July.
I didn't realize the beaver was a representative of Canada. I certainly do
like the Beaver Tail
pastries I get when we go to Winterlude in Ottawa. I would have thought a better
representative would be that bear that is on the LaBatts
Blue commercials. Or those black squirrels I only see in Canada. That stopped
me in my tracks the first time I saw one. I thought he was just a very dirty
squirrel.

Heat Wave
Aaron and I are heading back to Rochester this afternoon. There are thunderstorms predicted. Goody.
At least a thunderstorm might break this heat. It has been unbearably hot. And we practically live in Canada. I stayed above the Mason Dixon line for a reason. I like summer activities and all, but I just can't take smothering heat.
The worst is when your car has been sitting out in a parking lot in the sun all day. Opening the door and feeling the hot air woosh out just about makes me sick. All my friends say they love the heat, but after sitting out in it at lunch, looking all withered and melted, no one resists heading back inside to the AC early. Joel and Lara are going to Disney next week. I cannot imagine. Good luck with that.
I wonder how the weather is in Alaska right about now?

Saturday
On our car trip home yesterday, Aaron and I stopped at a fireworks warehouse. I am not familiar with the laws and so on regarding fireworks, but they had a pretty strict process. You had to show your drivers license at the door and you couldn't enter if you were a PA resident.
Aaron was like a kid in a candy store. I steered him away from the large rocket types towards the little guys with names like "Butterfly and Flowers" and "Friendship Pagoda". The best name we saw was "Instant Happiness".
This evening with a bucket of water on hand we set our purchases off in my parents driveway. I stood and held the flashlight while Aaron lit match after match as they blew out from the night breeze. As soon as a fuse was lit I turned and scurried away as fast as I could.
Judging from the ooohs and aaahs of my family the best displays were the "Happy Lantern" that spun and lit up and then at the end burst open into a big paper lantern, and the "Twitter Glitter" that sprayed sparks while whistling loudly. I was less enthusiastic about the super loud bottle rockets. They sure did go high though. And Emily learned not to stand in my way when I am running away from them.
