Working

I have to admit I thought moving my site would be a lot messier. I still have stuff to improve, but overall things went well. The server I went with is iPowerWeb. Both Joel and Sarah use them.

So let me know if my page loads more quickly now. I hope it's better.

Fishy Flick

This evening I went to see "Finding Nemo". It was great!

A little sad, especially since my goldfish, Fish, died last weekend. *sniff*

Grounds

While I was at Starbucks for Sit 'n Knit this evening I spotted big silver bags with flower stickers on them. I went over to investigate. Turns out they were bags of coffee grounds for your garden. Oooooh and they were free.

I nabbed a bag for my rhododendron. I saw on the news this morning that they like acidic soil. I desperately want a hydrangea outside of my house too. I am nursing a small one I got for Easter that I almost killed. It will get some of the grounds too when it gets transplanted outside. I shouldn't be the only one to enjoy the coffee.

In the Navy

This past Memorial Day weekend my family came up and we went to the Buffalo Naval Park to look at the destroyer, cruiser and submarine they have docked there. My dad spent a long time staring at the engine of the sub. It is amazing how the sailors lived in such teeny spaces. In the sub, some of them actually slept above and below the torpedos.(Picture of the torpedo room on the right)

I once saw where Aaron lived on the carrier he was assigned to. It wasn't as small, thank goodness. He couldn't be on a sub because he was too tall. I bet they would stick me in one right away. "Why she was built for these things!"

Sneaky

Since I posted some puppy pics, I better post some bunny ones. Not that I would ever leave these two alone unattended, but Oscar and Ernie are getting along pretty well these days.

I would entitle the first picture "Ernie sneaking up on Oscar watching TV". The caption on the second one would be Ernie saying "Look... I said I am sorry I snuck up and scared you... Ok?"

Fashion Dog

I couldn't resist also getting Oscar this fetching neckerchief and matching collar charm at Target. The charm is an ice cream cone that says "Cool Dog".

My dad (my folks were up for the weekend) took one look at him and said "I'm so sorry Oscar". Hmmmfff! I thought he looked rather dashing. The Cockapoos next door were impressed. They both have crushes on Oscar.

Summer treat

I was considering getting Oscar some of the frozen doggie treats that I have seen in the ice cream section at Wegmans. A friend mentioned that Bone Appetit made her pooch throw up, but the Frosty Paws were a big hit.

I have already gotten him chew toys at Target that look like popscicles and ice cream cones. I plan on giving them to him when it gets really hot out. I can't wait to take a picture of him trotting around with the popscicle hanging out his mouth.

It ain't easy bein' green

Today I saw Hershey's Green Chocolate Syrup for chocolate milk. It is part of the Incredible Hulk promotion. As much as I like the Hulk, I don't know if I can drink green milk.

It's kinda like the Heinz Green Ketchup. I never met anyone that liked that ketchup except my grandfather. For some reason he really enjoyed it. Go figure.

Growing Pains

Yeah... my archives are gone. There has been and will be... funky stuff going on. Apparently blogs are being moved over to a new version of Blogger. Things might break.

I also think the root of my load time problems has been BlogSpot. It seems ALL BlogSpots are terribly slow. So I am on a search for a good service provider. Time to set up on my own space and get a good domain name. Any recommendations on service providers?

Power of Suggestion

Did you ever have someone approach you and comment that you look "tired". Instantly you feel tired. You think, "I must look awful. I did stay up late watching Voyager last night. Errrgghhh. I believe I am a little run down." Suddenly you are ready for a nap.

This has happened to me each of the past two days. I figure I must be tired. Why am I tired? I must be under stress. I go and check out the Institute for Stress Management. (Who knew there was such a thing?) There are Five One Minute Ways to Conquer Stress. I particularly like #5. Wiggle your toes.

Low rider

Today a friend asked me why I didn't have a cat. I have a dog, bird, tortoise, rabbit and two goldfish, but no cat. I'm really not sure why I don't have a kitty.

If I got a cat I could get a Munchkin Kitty. Look at their stubby legs! They are like feline weiner dogs. Another critter might be a bit much for my house though... but it's something to think about.

(*Note on the Munchkin...."Short legs apparently do not handicap Munchkins, which can run with considerable speed and climb trees, although their jumping ability is somewhat limited. Countertops may be beyond their reach, but some owners may consider this an asset. They are able to groom themselves, and can stretch with hindlegs to scratch behind their ears. ".... so they are not suffering. I would not support something that was cruelty to animals! I think it's interesting that no one thinks Dachshunds are bad... but if you have a kitty with short legs it seems to be different... why is that? There is a Munchkin rescue in Florida... anyone in Florida?)

Sweater Dog

I may be getting ahead of myself, but as soon as I finish the orphan dog blanket I am knitting, I'm starting on a dog sweater for Oscar. Sarah got me the pattern from Leisure Arts and yarn to make it for my birthday. I hope she is prepared to help me, because I haven't even purled yet.

There is one pattern for a sweater that has "Spoilt Rotten" stitched on the back. How appropriate!

Blowing your nose is not enough!

Ahhh... it's allergy season. I can practically see the pollen floating through the air. I have been watching coworkers sniffle and hack for a couple of weeks, and today I too fell prey to the annoying hayfever. I was sneezing all morning.

Perhaps what I need is a Nori! Bah-hah-hah... I can't even say it without laughing. Joel and I found this product website years ago. The pictures are priceless! I shouldn't poke fun. It probably works wonders and hats off to the folks that can use it. They are most likely walking around breathing freely while I weeze my way though spring. If I used that however, I would not be smiling, I would be writhing on the floor in agony.

(Uhhh if anyone decides to order one and try it... let me know how that worked out for you, ok?)

Frrrrrrrrozen

Tina and I were at William Sonoma and I spied Serendipity 3 Frrrozen Hot Chocolate Mix. I got one of course and we had them for dessert today. Yum! They were just as good as the ones we had in NYC. Used whipped cream and chocolate shavings too.

I was browsing William Sonoma online, trying to find the mix when I found this French Chocolate Pot. I was intrigued by this pot that you "place chocolate granules and hot milk in the pot and, using the dowel, stir the mixture to create smooth, creamy hot chocolate". Then I saw that it cost $139 and scrapped the idea.

Moisturizing

My grandma sent me birthday money and I knew exactly what I wanted. After this cold, dry winter, I had my eye on those moisturizing socks and gloves I've been seeing everywhere. I went to Bath and Body Works and got a pair of the Beauty Booties Moisturizing Gel Socks and the Shea It Isn't So Foot Cream to go with them. They feel so weird... cold and slimey... but they worked. I cheaped out on the gloves and got the plain cotton ones with the Aren't You Cutitcle Shea Butter Cream Stick and Look Ma, New Hands Renewing Hand Lotion. They don't work as well as the gel stuff.

I wish I could get a job giving beauty products quippy names. Oh, and here is a tip... ones bedside touch lamp doesn't work so well when one is wearing cotton gloves and in the morning, when taking off the socks, one must be careful getting out of bed... feet might be slippy... whoa!!!!

Okey dokey... so I got 13 responses that my page loads slowly, 17 that it loads fast and 11 that it is ok, sort of average. Many suggestions on what the problem may be... the posts, the comments, my graphics. So I'm not sure what to do... maybe I will take a nap first.

Feedback

Several of my friends mentioned at Sit 'n Knit last night that this webpage takes forever to load. I am wondering if that is the case for everyone. Do leave a comment and let me know how the page works for you.

Of course the irony is that it might be the comments that are slowing it down. I have several options... get my own service provider, get off BlogSpot and set up my comments system, move to Moveable Type (yikes), or wait and pray that blogger soon develops it's own built in comments system. Mmmmm I feel tired already.

Natural Progression

Every once in awhile Joel finds out about something before me. I had heard about the website Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About some time ago, but it was Joel that first found out it had been written into a book and is now being made into a movie.

Joel read the book and then loaned it to me. Granted it took me a very long time to finish "About a Boy" but I think that is because I had seen the movie first and knew how it ended, thus I didn't have the I -must -finish -the -book -so -I -can -find -out -what -happens situation. I think it is fitting that it was the last book I read because the same production company, Working Title, who has made Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and About a Boy, is making this movie. Gee, who do you think will play the lead? Joel thinks that Hugh would fit the role rather well, and I think Franka Potente would be good to play his German girlfriend.

Must Have

Finally! The first two seasons of Family Guy is on dvd. Aaron was so upset when they took it off the air. I think he signed a petition to get it back.

Tina got a copy too and we were watching it on Sunday. Priceless! Stuff like the Kool-Aid guy bursting through the wall saying "Oh, yeah" and Kate Moss slipping through a hole in the floor "Oops a crack!". Don't know what I am talking about? You gotta watch it!

Spider Sprinkler

Anyone who has seen a David Kirk illustrated children's book would reconize the Miss Spider stuff at Target. I had been looking at the lawn accoutrements for ages, and lo and behold... Joel, Lara and Company got me the Miss Spider sprinkler for my birthday.

I can't wait to see how it looks with the water spurting out her legs. Not that my lawn needs watering... it has been raining for three days straight here. Ugghh... I just hope all the grass I planted comes up.

Martha Inc.

I had a panic attack this evening when I thought I had missed "Martha Inc., The Martha Stewart Story". I was relieved to find that it is on next monday.

Cybil Sheperd plays Martha. I actually thought Candice Bergin would make a good Martha, but Cybil looks convincing. I can't wait, I will have to DVR it.

B-day

We went out last night to celebrate my birthday (which is today). We went to a chop chop fire fire Japanese restaurant. I had never been before and always wanted to go. Tina got a great picture of the chef setting a tower of onions on fire.

Afterwards there was cake at Tina's... I got three cakes! One for each decade. (you do the math)

Mix up

When I blogged about the Kitchen Aid Pink Mixer a few days ago, I didn't know Aaron was getting me one, I swear. I just have a sixth sense when it comes to birthday plans. I also almost went and looked at my Amazon wishlist, which would have given away the stuff he sent for birthday week (we practice a glorious tradition where one gets a gift everyday of their birthday week!)

I suppose I was intended to open the mixer on the actual day of my birthday, but it came in a big box with KITCHEN AID and a picture of a mixer on the side of it, so there was no point in waiting. Aaron said he asked them to put in in a plain box... aww that's too bad. It looks fabulous on my counter. Now I must decide what the first mixture to be mixed in the new mixer will be!

QUACK

I got a 20% coupon for BB&B (Bed Bath and Beyond) and I used it on a huge rubber ducky,Bill the Large Rubber Ducky. He came with a rain hat that I will try and make Oscar wear the next time it rains.

He looms over my regular sized rubber ducky. He is an excellent addition to my bathroom decor. Between this and the mug... I clearly like oversized things. Like Aaron for example. (6 foot 4... hah!)

Fill 'er up

I just spent a relaxing Sit 'n Knit evening at Starbucks. My new drink of choice is the Mocha Malt Frappacino. I usually switch to the Fraps for the summer. I even got one of the cool Rocket Tumblers to have it in each week.

What I would really like is the 8 gallon Giant Rocket Tumbler they have on display. I think it's about $70. I pointed at it and tried hinting to Tina that my birthday was coming up, but she just said "Hah!" so I'm not holding my breath. (All the better, no one would want to see me with that much caffine in my system anyhow)

Low Technology

Aaron likes to call me "Low Tech". He thinks it's really funny that I work on a computer all day, I enjoy messing with electronic gadgets... handspring, cell phone, digital camera, yet I prefer to use a wind up egg timer rather than the electronic timer on the microwave. This goes for several things... I will use a chopper instead of the food processor, an egg beater before the hand mixer and a broom rather than the vacuum.

Seeing as how it is up to me to mow the grass this summer, I decided I didn't want to use the gas mower. Last week I went to Lowes and bought a push mower. It works great! Sure it's more work, but I pay good money at the gym for a workout like that. And Oscar can be in the yard with me while I mow. While there are many good reasons to use a push mower, I think it may be the noise. All these machines make a loud noise.

Not that this means that I don't still want the pink Kitchen Aid Mixer mind you.

Fancy fruit

The container sucker I am, I couldn't pass up these Tupperware Fruit Lockers when I saw them at Target. (Target sells Tupperware!) How can you resist an apple shaped apple container to carry your apple in?

I will mess with everyones head at lunch and bring a peach in my apple container.... ah-hah-hah hah! Actually I did buy some Sun Orchard Apples Harvest Cuts. Yes, in today's world of snack packs, you can actually buy pre cut packs of sliced apples. I popped a bag into my apple container and took it to work today.

Cinco De Mayo

Today the EAT team held a Cinco De Mayo celebration for the office. We decorated with sombreros, set up a nacho bar and had all sorts of Goya sodas. There were so many different flavors to choose from, they made a colorful display.

My friend/coworker Kenn is from Mexico and he was in his element. That would be him in the picture trying to make me dance. I use the term dance loosely... but I did have my new swishy red skirt on. I almost returned that skirt 'cause I couldn't think of a time I would wear it, and I thought it was too snuggy. Tina said I am not allowed to return clothing without her permission from now on.

A dish for everything

Last night I made my macaroni and cheese to take to Joel and Lara's for dinner. I think it tasted especially good because I made it in my new macaroni and cheese dish. It's part of the Pot Luck line by Rosanna. I also have the pie pan and brownie pan. I got Tina the cake dishes for Easter.

I like the retro look of them, and each of them has a recipe printed right on the dish. I got them at Wegmans and haven't found much online about them. Rosanna has some of her dishes here, but not the Pot Luck cookware. Just looking at them makes me want to cook stuff. And wear a frilly apron.

Houseguest

Guess who is spending the weekend with me and Oscar?! Murphy! Sarah and Denis dropped him off early this evening. They have been having a good ol' time.

I have learned two things. Murphy is a toy hog and Oscar likes to keep his water bowl to himself. Otherwise they are getting along famously.
