Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
in an effort to combine St. Patrick's Day and the looming Easter holiday, I made shamrock Easter eggs. You can read about how I made these photo eggs with decoupage glue and blown eggs on 1000 Words today.
. You can leave me a comment there if you want... it's sadly commentless
I watched the St. Patrick's Day parade downtown today with Tina and Lauren (who is quite the flag waver). Even my friend Tom showed up with his kids in the chilly afternoon. We were there to see this...
With Easter coming early this year, only five days after St. Patrick's Day, it poses a problem for me. Do I decorate for St. Patrick's Day? Or for Easter?
I couldn't resist things like my marshmallow peep bunny lights. So I skipped the shamrocks and went right for the Easter decorations.
Even though I only have furry children, I get to celebrate
Mother's Day.
For breakfast Aaron made me a Dutch Baby with whipped cream
and berries. It was buttery-licious!
Oscar and Stewie pooled their pennies together and bought me
two Japanese Maples for the front yard. We went to our local Oriental
Garden Supply where they have greenhouse after greenhouse of Japanese
Maples to choose from. I picked a lacy red variety.
To end the day we went to the Lilac Festival to sniff the
lilacs and eat vast quantities of kettle korn.
I colored Easter eggs today with Aaron and my sister. I had it in my head that I wanted eggs that looked like real bird eggs. So after I dyed my eggs, I put them in a box and splatter painted them with a toothbrush and paint. I think they look cute. My dad said he has never seen a bird lay an egg like these.
As soon as I got off my redeye flight from San Fran today, I repacked my bags to go home to PA for Easter this weekend.
It's been tough planning for Easter when I have been gone for two weeks. I haven't gotten to decorate the house or color eggs. I should have at least gone online and ordered these Vosges chocolate bunnies. I love Vosges chocolate and these bunnies are too cute.
The descriptions for the different flavors are hilarious...
"Red Fire - Volcano Rabbit (Romerolagus diazi)
Hops in the pine forests near the foothills of the Popocatepetl volcanoes. Rub my belly and you'll feel my spice, Ancho and Chipotle chillies, Ceylon cinnamon, and dark chocolate. Ahreeba, Ahreeba!!"
My friends Sarah and Denis had their annual St Patrick's Day party this weekend. I didn't get my camera out until the end when we were hanging out in their kitchen with their dogs... how unlike me.
I love St. Patrick's Day parties because I like making green food. This year I made something we have back in PA quite a lot... Watergate Salad. Very green and very yummy.
It's hard to ignore all the Easter Stuff in the stores already. I love bunnies and they are everywhere. I spotted these bunny suits in the Easter aisles at Target.
Aaron looks disgusted because I was suggesting we get one for him to wear for Easter Sunday. I made him stand next to it to see if it was long enough. That's one big Easter bunny!
I make no secret of the fact that I am spoilt rotten. For Valentine's Day, Aaron got me Mariebelle chocolates (while apologizing for not making the chocolates himself) and a Paul Frank Pugly watch.
What I really loved though... was the work he put into packaging the gifts. He actually made the gift tags by gluing patterned paper inside craft paper and used a hole punch to cut heart shapes through the front. And check out the ribbon! (which I immediately hoarded away)
I was amazed. All these years of crafting in near proximity of him has paid off!
Here are a few things I made my friends for Valentine's Day. At the top is a chocolate bar cozy (in other words, good for hiding it away so others don't eat it). The hearts are just for hanging.
They are all made of felt because I dislike hemming things. Each heart has a button pinned to it.
Aaron got me a button maker for Christmas and I was itching to use it. I was a little disapointed though as they made sub-standard buttons. I didn't realize the button makers from Michael's or Joann's were so different from the professional quality ones. I am on the lookout for an affordable "real" button maker... any suggestions?
I got this plain red apron at our office store for a couple bucks and wanted to embellish it a bit. I stitched three felt hearts to the front and viola! Seemed like a good idea especially since I never did finish the hearts apron I started last year. *SHAME*
Valentine's Day is getting close and my house is plastered in hearts and cupids.
I put up the heart tree like last year. Only this year I have a kitty whose eyes glaze over with longing when he sees all those dangly hearts swaying to and fro. He has knocked it over once already.
Two years ago I sold all my Debbie Mumm holiday snowman dishes on eBay because I wanted something new. Since I did that I felt it was okay to get these Tord Boontje holiday dishes at Target this year.
Especially since it was after Christmas and they were on clearance!
On New Years Day, Aaron and I continued the tradition we started the year we were married and took our pictures in front of my Grandma's refridgerator.
This year we had Stewie to add. I think it looks like he is saying " I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne."
Aaron got me this "Scrap, Paper, Scissors" Mini Organizer and I am enjoying it immensely. I filled it up and carry it with me throughout the house. It appeals to the super organizer side of me.
It came complete with 17 outside pockets, 9 inside pockets and one zippered compartment on bottom of tote. Heaven!
