Aaron and I went to the Rochester Airshow today. I screamed out loud at one point when a Thunderbird snuck up and swooped by us but you couldn't hear me.
We were down at Schoen Place to ride the Sam Patch on the Erie Canal when I noticed a bunch of kayaks and paddleboats in the water. Turns out the Erie Canal Boat Company is renting out canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and bikes.
I am so excited. They have programs like Park, Paddle & Peddle. You park in Fairport, bike the towpath to Pittsford then kayak back to Fairport. I can't wait to try it!
This evening Aaron picked me up from the airport when I arrived from Michigan and drove straight to Frontier Field for a baseball game where the new WeROC campaign was going to be promoted.
We ROC is a campaign to build a bigger sense of pride in the Greater Rochester area. I like the taglines in their campaign like...
If You're Trash Talkin' Rochester, You Better Be Ordering a Garbage Plate
Those Who Say Wine Country Only Exists in California Can Put a Cork In It
When Nature Gets Feisty, We Measure It With a Ruler, Not a Richter Scale
890,000 Patents and Almost as Many Festivals
While we were there Aaron posed with the Red Wings mascot. I thought it was a nice picture when I took it... then I got it home, downloaded it and noticed the little kid peer over the mascots head. He looks like he thinks Aaron should get his sticky paws off HIS mascot!
This weekend Aaron took me to Olindo's Italian Import Food and set me loose. They have lots of pasta and olive oil, but what I was smitten with were the LavAzza coffee cups. They were only $2 each!
They remind me of the cups we drank cappucino from at the Italian bakeries in Boston. Aaron doesn't like the little handles 'cause his finger doesn't fit in it.
I also got a bottle of Lurisia spring water and some LavAzza coffee. I have a little corner of Italy set up on my kitchen counter.
We were supposed to get a lot of snow today so Aaron picked me up from work. We were driving along and almost home when I spied with my little eye something very curious. I yelled "Turn around and park!" I really did shout that and Aaron frantically pulled over as soon as he could. He wasn't even out of the truck and I was halfway down the sidewalk.
What I spotted was this. The warm glow of a brank spanky new bakery! I just love to see new businesses open downtown and I was thrilled that it was a bakery.
I rushed in and started taking pictures in between "I'll have some of these!" and "I'll take one of those!" Check out the goods! MINI CUPCAKES PEOPLE!!!
And single servings of WEDDING CAKE!!! BRILLIANT!!!
This is Nick and Bethany Soures, the owners.... who were very nice and accepting of my bizarre estatic behavior and even let me take a picture of them.
So the name of the new bakery is Goodness Cakes and by new I mean it opened a week ago! It's at 720 University Avenue, in what I think used to be the old police station (now houses a photo gallery too). Edibles and Starry Nite cafe are just a few doors down.
If you happen to stop by be sure to tell them the short crazy girl in the orange coat sent you.
Sometimes I forget I live next to a really big lake. My
parents came up for the Fourth of July and I took them to Durand
Eastman Beach. There are waves, sand and everything.
Aaron and I will have to go back soon with a picnic lunch.
This weekend we went to the Taste of Rochester.
They close down a street and there are restaurants set up with $1, $2,
$3 and $4 offerings. I was totally into eating all the $1
foods. You get small portions, but you get to try all kinds of stuff. I
could eat like that all the time. In the $1 range I had crab meat
rangoons, bruchetta, a maple crepette, a homemade meatball, a slider
burger, corn on the cob, a spring roll and a banana strawberry
smoothie.
It was a fun evening but I only have pictures of us with the
Geico Gecko. Once we started eating I was too busy to take pictures.
