Bunny cake for Easter

While lying around sick, I got it into my head that I wanted to make a chocolate bunny cake for Easter. It had been years since I made one of my bunny cakes, and I totally forgot that you don't bake the two side separately. You fill one side as full as you can, place the other half on top and let the cake bake up into it. The two cakes bake beautifully but they were not structurally sound when I stuck them together with frosting.

After I looked at my own blog post from the past I realized my mistake. Bunny cake stayed upright just long enough for me to snap a photo. He was still delicious.

Kitty Litter Dessert for April Fool's Day

Yesterday morning at the office we all got an email in our inbox that our co-worker Chuck had brought in a special dessert to share. Not one to miss out on a treat I skittered out of my cubicle to check it out. This pan of "kitty litter" is what I found.

Isn't is GRRRROOOSSSS?! Ha ha we dug into anyhow! What craftsmanship with the kitty poo! It was very tasty! We all got a big kick out of Chuck's April Fool's Kitty Litter Dessert. It's made from cake crumbles, pudding and vanilla cookies. I found the recipe online for anyone that wants to yuck out their friends and family too.

Yum Yum Cake

I knew Aaron was starting to feel better after the flu when he made a request for some baking. He asked for my mom's Yum Yum Cake. Why is it called Yum Yum Cake? Well, isn't that obvious?

It's pretty easy to make... I was able to make one for Aaron and one for my boss' birthday in the office.

Here is how to make Yum Yum Cake:

Bake a yellow cake in a cookie sheet so it is very thin. Bake it for 15 minutes instead of the usual time.

Top it with this frosting:

Mix a large box of instant vanilla puddin with 1 cup of milk.

Mix in room temperature 8 oz of cream cheese

Mix in 9oz of cool whip.

Sprinkle with crushed walnuts.

Cake decorating

Aaron got me this absolutely amazing cake decorating set for Christmas. I love all the drawers and all the goodies that came inside.

Then he signed me & Tina up for a cake decorating class. I have never really taken an offical class. I have been sort of winging it though bunny cake, castle cake, caterpillar cake, princess cake, lady bug cake and domo cake.

It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. Turns out I've been doing my stars wrong. I was double squeezing when you are supposed to squeeze, stop and lift. These are the practice cookies I did in class.

It's great taking a class where you get to eat your assignments.

I didn't have "learn something new" on my resolutions list but maybe I should add it!

Happy Birthday Cake Bunting

I've seen these cake buntings on Pinterest and was biding my time to make one.

Today is Shruti's birthday and the fall birthday girl gets my favorite baked good of the season - zucchini bread!

Thank goodness for the cute bunting because without it, zucchini bread doesn't look very exciting for a birthday!

Wegman's Ultimate White Cake!

I just tried the new Wegman's Ultimate White Cake. If you think they couldn't top the Ultimate Chocolate Cake, think again. I got a little one (I love the wee size) and it tastes like WEDDING CAKE! I love wedding cake. If I was getting married again I would seriously consider getting a Wegmam's Ultimate White Cake for my wedding cake and I'm not even kidding.

By the way @Wegmans is now on Twitter. You can tell them how much you love their cake.

Domo Birthday Cake

Today was Aaron's birthday so I made him a Domo birthday cake. I had been planning this for awhile. When I saw JustJenn made Domo cupcakes I was happy to see that Domo does indeed translate well to baked goods.

I think the birthday boy liked the Domo cake.

Aaron and I made a heart shaped cake for Shruti who was throwing a party for a newlywed friend of hers. Mmmmm... pink and brown!

On the topic of cakes, I just spotted these bunny cake pans at Williams Sonoma. I do love bunny cakes.

I like this picture of the bunny cake the best. Look at his little bunny smile. Totally oblivious to the fact he is about to be consumed with a scoop of chocolate ice cream.

cake top

We were in Canandaigua last week for work and stopped by the Rose Corner Bakery. That is where we discovered a brilliant idea. Cake tops. When making a wedding cake you have to cut the top off to make it level. Instead of throwing away the cake toppers, they put them in a container, frost them and sell them for $3. Pure genius! Lucky us, someone had ordered a pumpkin wedding cake with spice frosting so that was available. I think all they need is a catchy name like "Frosted Toppers" a little marketing and they will have a hot product on their hands.
