We went strawberry picking yesterday and I was determined to go home with a satisfactory amount of berries. Every year I polish the strawberries off within a week and wonder why I didn't pick more. I took pictures at the field of course.

So Aaron and I picked about 9 quarts of berries. And cleaned them. And cut them.

I made freezer jam (project page here), strawberry shortcake topping, ice cream topping, strawberry popsicles, strawberry juice and froze some whole berries. If we get snowed in for months this winter, we can live off strawberries.

  1. Looks delicious! Oh, and I almost spit out my drink when I read "Chopping broccoli". I tend to sing that while chopping veggies.

  5. Mmmmm. I just made strawberry jam a few months ago. I live in Louisiana so the berries ripen a bit sooner than NY. I've been loving it on english muffins.

  7. How wonderful! My husband and I are going berry picking this month! I am going to have to make that strawberry jam, no question about that. For the popcicles, did you just use strawberry juice? So smart about doing the strawberry shortcake topping, too! Thank you for so many great ideas.

  8. I can't wait until the raspberries are ripe around here! I am totally going to try that freezer jam thing. The strawberries just keep rolling in here. Every week I buy 4-6 quarts and eat them over the weekend with who ever I am spending time with. YUM!

This last time I made strawberry crepes with a strawberry sauce and devenshire cream. It was delish.

  10. I want to go strawberry picking! I shouldn't knock it, though. We're lucky enough to be able to "sorta" pick pumpkins in the fall...[they're already cut off the vine & left on the ground like some scavenger-challenged Easter egghunt. kill joy.]

Ps...strawberries are dang expensive from the market.
