Sunflowers and bees

My friend Paulette loaned me a macro lens and I put it to good use in the sunflower field.

These bee photos would probably make Tina pass out cold.

They were so busy and full of pollen they didn't pay much mind to us.

I love these close up photos!

Caught mid-air.

Beekeeping

Last summer, when I was at the South Wedge Farmers Market, I discovered the Bloomfield Honey Farm booth. Besides honey they also sold beekeeping supplies. That got me thinking. I wasn't getting anywhere with my city chickens plans, but they explained that you can have bees in the city.

Tonight Aaron and I went to a Beekeeping class. We learned so much and are signing up for the beekeeping mentor program in 2012. I already have my bee hive Aaron got me for Xmas but it is too far along for this year to start. Next season we will take some more classes, get our mentor and even acquire local bees from the local beekeeping club rather than ordering online Southern bees with questionable backgrounds.

A penguin pillow and one piece jammies.

A bat house and bat book.

Amazing Pyrex casserole with printed lid.

Vintage mixer that fits on a Pyrex measuring cup.

Sunflower Field

There is a sunflower field on Calkins Road that I was determined to get out and photograph.

It was getting late in the evening when I got there, and I missed the best light but I still took a few shots.

Aaron took a few pics too and we both shot some video.

I recommend if you don't like bees you skip the part between 2:25 and 3:54... Tina this means you. Although Tina did pretty well when I showed up at work with this necklace on.

I like honey bees (maybe because I like honey so much?)... especially the big fat lazy ones that graze on sunflowers. Here is the video.
