Lake camping

It's an added bonus when you go camping next to a lake. We were able to do a little fishing.

Well, we dangled worms in the water for awhile... didn't really catch anything. The pugs were so helpful.

Look at that lake sunset!

Camp Cooking

One of my favorite parts of camping is the food. We didn't get to cook anything our first evening because of the rain so I was pretty excited for breakfast the next morning. Hugo was pretty excited too.

For dinner we had steak. I swear it tastes better outside.

The rest of the meal was cooked in foil packets... corn on the cob and mushrooms.

Aaron finally got to use his hobo knife complete with fork and spoon.

And i got to break in my mini dutch oven.

I used the little dutch oven to make a blueberry cobbler for dessert. I used this recipe, which seemed a little strange as it called for a box of cake mix and a can of Sprite. It worked though!

Boating on Seneca Lake

So it rained all last night but today made up for it. We put the boat into Seneca Lake and pretty much stayed out all day.

Seneca Lake is the largest Finger Lake. It's 36 miles long and it's deepest spot is 618 feet.

Right before this trip we each got an inner tube. At the hottest part of the day we anchored the boat, tied our inner tubes to the boat and hopped in. The water was COLD! It was so relaxing to float and bob along.

I had totally forgotten about the legend of the Seneca Lake Sea Monster. Brrrrr.

The pugs kept looking over the edge at the boat at us. I think they were concerned something would happene to us and they wouldn't get back to the campsite in time for dinner.

This is where the pugs spent most of their time on the boat. Snoozing in the bow.

While we were cruising around the lake we went past another lake legend... the painted rocks. It was first believed that the Senecas painted this after they were displaced by Continental troops. This has been debunked due to the fact the Senecas lived in longhouses not teepees and they left by horse not canoe. The paintings were most likely created by tour boats for story telling.

It was still fun to see it. We almost went from one end of the lake to the other. Such a good day.

Camping at Seneca Lake

This weekend we headed to Seneca Lake with our tent for some camping. As you can see we are Coleman fans.

The pugs love to camp.

They were glad we brought the Coolaroo for them to lounge on at the campsite.

Once we set up camp, we went for a walk along the lake.

Two bumps pugs on a log.

Instead of sand, the lake has smooth stones around the edge.

After our walk it started to rain and it rained until about 11pm. We had to sit in the tent with two snoring pugs and eat peanut butter peanut butter cup and jelly sandwiches. That's camping!

Mini Dutch Oven

I had dutch oven cooking on my list of 2014 things to do. I decided to start out small, so Aaron ordered us this little wee cast iron dutch oven.

It really is small. Here it is next to Stewie for size. Stewie was not impressed.

Camp food

I might as well come out with it... my favorite part of camping is the food. Breakfast over campfire is delightful. Check out the nifty camp toaster we use. So simple but it really works!

Fried potatoes. (Coffee bubbling away too)

And bacon of course. Ohhhh the sizzling bacon!

The dinner wasn't half bad either. We have never cooked steak over a campfire but it was amazing. Heat up the skillet really hot, add butter, salt and pepper the steak then plop it in.

Don't forget the sides... corn on the cob and new red potatoes. So good!

Campfire

It's not camping without toasted marshmallows and s'mores is it?

Another great part of camping. Sitting around the campfire at night, just watching the flames.

Camping

We are on a camping trip for the weekend at Cayuga Lake! We got to the campsite just in time. Aaron pitched the tent and we were tucked in no more than an hour before it began to pour.

Luckily the weather cleared for the rest of the weekend and we were able to go for a walk down by the lake.

Pugs love camping.

Coleman Campsite

Yup - here is another camping post. Can you tell I'm trying to hang onto last weekends camping trip as long as possible?

On another camping post Gab left me a comment telling me about Coleman's iPhone apps. I had to download them right away.

There is a camping meal planner, a "virtual" lantern and a collection of campfire stories. The Coleman Campsite also has cool stuff like desktop wallpapers.

I downloaded those too.

The more I looked at my camping pictures the more I realized we are huge Coleman fans. We have a lot of Coleman camping stuff!

We have Coleman lanterns, a dog bed, tent, dog sleeping bag, canoe and campstove! Clearly we love Coleman.

I poked around some more and found Coleman on Twitter and Facebook. They are also on YouTube with these funny videos explaining that the Coleman Campsite is probably the foundation to Social Networking!

Giant Marshmallows

I froze in the middle of Wegmans when I spied these GINORMOUS marshmallows! Campfire Giant Roasters.

I was counting down the days until we went camping and I could try these babies out. They are almost as big as my head!

Ok maybe they aren't the size of my head, but they are big! Look at it!

They toast up really well. Next up I will be trying them with smores and other campfire delights. Watching me eat one of these is delightful I'm sure. I was a big gooey glub glub mess. By glub glub I mean my mouth was so full of marshmallow "glub" was the only noise I could make.

On a side note, I just got this big jar from Fishes Eddy on sale just for storing my marshmallows and can't decide if I want to mix the giant marshmallows in with the regular sized ones. Decisions, decisions.

Campsite Cairns

I was at it again at the campsite - setting up mini cairns.

I like setting them up by the water.

Multiple cairns!

Some geese came by to see what I was up to.

I think they were pretty impressed.

"Hey guys! C'mon over here and look at these rocks!"
