Have bowl, will eat.... chili

Last night was the Chili Cookoff at Genesee Center for Art and Education. A ticket gets you a ceramic bowl of your choice and samples of chili from 17 particpating restaurants. There are lots of bowls to choose from and it take awhile to find just the right bowl... your bowl of destiny.

I was there early because I was working the bar (believe it or not - don't get too excited, I was just opening bottles of beer) and I spied my bowl right away. It had a handle! Aaron got a really cool bowl with a nifty foot.

After my volunteer shift, I got to join my friends sampling chili. There were spicy ones, sweet ones, smokey ones...

We had a lot of chili.

Maybe too much chili!

Chili cookoff success

Tonight was the Genesee Center for Arts and Education Firehouse Chili Cookoff. The entire building smelled like chili which was mouthwatering. There were some delicious chili on hand. I managed to get away to taste a few of them before they ran out. A creamy sweet chicken and a pumpkin chili stand out in my mind.

In a funny twist of irony, my volunteer job for the evening was "tending the bar", which consisted of taking drink tickets and taking off bottle caps. Genesee Brewery generously donated beer for the cookoff so I was popping caps off Dundee Oktoberfest, Genesee (red label), Geneesee Cream Ale and Genny Light all night.

The coolest part of the the chili cookoff, is everyone gets to pick out a handmade ceramic bowl for their chili and take it home. It was so hard to choose! I enjoyed checking out everyone's bowls as they came to the bar and commenting on them. Especially the people that found really big bowls or wee little bowls.

I finally decided on this one.

Aaron actually scored an Andrew Cho bowl! Lucky!

You not only get all the chili you can eat but you get to take home the hand-made ceramic chili bowl! Everyone gets to vote on the best chili at the cookoff.
