Little hands and feet

It feels like Jackson is growing so fast already. I take lots of pictures but I like to record his first days other ways too. My mom got us this handrprint ornament kit for Christmas.

My friend Tina likes to poke fun at my LWH otherwise known as Little Wrinkly Hands. For some reason, my hands look unusually wrinkly. Looks like Jackson inherited them from me.

My dear friends Peggy and Walt in Las Vegas sent us a hand and foot print frame. It turned out really nice. When I stare at the impressions they start to look 3D to me.

These aren't the final photos but I couldn't wait to put it together!

Someday I'll look back and wonder how he was ever so small.

Jackson Fox - One Month Old!

Jackson got geared up in his fox outfit for his one month photo. It sure doesn't feel like a month has gone by already.

Note that the typefaces I used in this are Action Jackson and Foxy!

I wasn't planning on doing any New Year's decorating since I'll be moving this month but I couldn't resist these inspirational pennants. Perfect for the New Year!

2017 Planner

After so many years of buying new planners and even trying to make my own, you can see I really am happy with the year planners that I get from May Designs. I keep coming back to them year after year. They are cute and they have just the right calendar layout and extra pages for lists.

This year I went with a strawberry design! Now that it is here I can finally continue on with 2017.

Best nine of 2016

I had to smile when I saw what my top nine Instagram posts for 2016 were. Obviously the anticipation and arrival of Jackson Fox were the highlights of the year!

At least the pugs made it into two shots.

Japchae for New Years

This holiday my mom also made japchae which is another traditional New Year's dish. It is sweet potato noodles mixed with beef and veggies like spinach, carrots and onions.

Pajeon which means "onion pancake" is usually a New Year's Day dish but we had it on New Year's Eve. We offered some to Jackson but he only gave it the side eye.

We also had our usual steamed shrimp in Old Bay seasoning. He completely fell asleep when offered that.

New Year's Feast - Korean Style

Instead of our usual pork and saurkraut for New Year's Day, my mom made traditional Korean food for New Year's.

Tteokguk, (pictured at the bottom) is a soup with oval rice cake in a beef broth with green onions and seaweed added. You eat this in order to gain one year of life.

Since she had the rice cakes out she also made some tteokbokki (the plate at the top of the picture)  For this dish you mix gochujang which is a sweet red chili hot sauce with the rice cakes. You can also add fish cakes but I'm not that crazy about those. She added some onions instead.

I like the idea of adding traditional Korean food to our New Year's meal. I've convinced my mom to teach Jackson to speak Korean and I am hoping he loves Korean food too!

A New Year, A New Beginning

I have been taking these Year to Year portraits on New Year’s Day since 2005.

This year… my Year to Year photos look a little different.

In July of 2016, when I was five months pregnant, my husband of 12 years (and boyfriend for 10 before that), made the decision to leave this family.

It has been incredibly hard these past months. You will see many of my posts lately were either me trying to maintain some sort of norm or simply a bit of scripture. I am heartbroken, not just for the end of our marriage but for my son. This was not the family and life that I had imagined for him. I have got through it with the help of my friends, family and church family. They raked my leaves, accompanied me to childbirth classes, sent plows in snowstorms and always lent sympathetic ears. I am forever in their debt.

This month Jackson and I will be moving back to Pennsylvania to be with family. I will miss Rochester and all of my friends but 2017 will be a year of fresh beginnings.

Scripture says God uses trials to bring you closer to him. Indeed my faith has been strengthened and carries me through each day.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

And just this morning in church these two verses jumped out at me.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

Jackson is here now and is all I could hope for. I am very blessed and we have lots to look forward to in 2017. Happy New Year everyone!
