Radish and peanut butter experiment

I saw this suggestion in Martha Stewart to dip radishes in a mixture of butter and peanut butter. I love radishes and I love peanut butter so I thought it was worth a try. I really like celery and peanut butter so why not this?

I didn't bother with the butter/peanut butter mixture but went right for it and dipped chunks of radish right into peanut butter. I like it! The peanut butter tempers the bite of the radish. Good one Martha.

Veggie garden

One day I looked at the garden and this plant was bare. It seemed like overnight these eggplants suddenly appeared. What a surprise sneaky eggplant.

Over in the other raised garden bed, I counted over sixty tomatoes on our four tomato plants. The first one to ripen was a Lemon Boy yellow tomato.

What a beaut! When the rest of them decide to turn ripe we will be swimming in tomatoes!

The zucchini are finally starting to grow after a slow start this summer. There will be a few more loaves of zuke bread to come this season!

Cicada in the veggie garden

I was inspecting our veggie garden's progress when I first found an empty shell, then a few inches away, this guy that crawled out of it. I don't think it is one of the 17 year cicadas that have been in the news, but a Dog Day Cicada.

Moving on to the garden... our tomatoes look great. I counted over 30 growing on our four plants.

I can't wait until they are ripe!

Pretty excited about the celery also.

Back to the cicada... he was really chill, just strolling around peering up with his big eyeballs. He just better not be eating my veggies.

CSA - cherries, yellow squash and mystery veggie

These CSA shares keep getting better! Cherries! Yellow Squash! Weird thingy I had to google - turns out its kohlrabi.

I used the cherries in a cherry puddin'. The same recipe for blueberry pudding with cherries instead.

The weather is heating up, so we cook as much on the grill as we can. The yellow squash were sliced, tossed with oil and pepper and grilled.

The kohlrabi however is still waiting for me to tackle it. Staring at me. Challenging me.

Starting seedlings

We decided to start seedlings inside this year for our veggie garden. Aaron even got a sod blocker to make little blocks of dirt to start the seedlings in.

I've always wanted one of these newspaper pot makers and he got one of those too to hold sod for planting flower seedlings.

These plus heat mats resulted in little plants popping up in just a couple days.

Now we have lots of tomatoe, cucumber, zuchhini and beet seedlings for our veggie garden!
