I was incoherent yesterday. I was drowsy and couldn't concentrate. It happened after lunch, so I have determined that it was what I ate. There are foods that can make you alert or make you sleepy. After consulting some information from "Managing Your Mind and Mood Through Food" I think it was the cheesy chile rellenos that made me stoopid. Here are some pointers:

• High protein with high fat will tend to make you drowsy (beef, pork, lunch meats, milk, cheese)

• Protein alone or with carbohydrates will make you more alert and motivated (fish, chicken, lean beef, low fat milk, yogurt)

• Carbohydrates alone (candy, cookies, ice cream, cake, pie, soft drinks) will make you relaxed and focused. Candy and sugary foods actually have a calming effect, because your brain chemistry influences you more than the level of sugar in your blood.

• Starch (bread, muffins, bagels, pasta, rice, corn) will also relax and focus you.

Clearly I should have skipped the chili rellenos and went right for the chocolate mousse cake.
