Blogger Merchandising

My Blogger baby-t came in the mail this week. I wore it this evening to go see "Wrestling Women vrs. the Aztec Mummy" at the Dryden.

Coming out of the theatre, a guy pointed at my shirt and said "Look..Blogger" to his friends.

I am a walking ad for Blogger.

*Achooo!*

Another pollen infested fauna burst into bloom today. I couldn't stop sneezing on my way into work.

I remembered I stuck some sort of allergy medicine in my desk drawer. Sure enough, when I checked there were some loose pills rolling around in there. In my drippy nosed haze I grabbed one and swallowed it down.

I have no idea what it was, Sudafed....Claritin.....but I sure am drowsy now...*drool*.

Punk Head

Aaron went and had his hair dyed blue yesterday. I'm not sure how long he has been plotting to do this. It wasn't my idea. I think he looks a bit like a blueberry.

His whole head isn't blue. Just the spikey bits on top are highlighted blue.

He said he wanted to do it before he becomes entrenched in the corporate world. I was still surprised. I mean, he is the J.Crew poster boy. He looks for reasons to wear a tie. He makes Michael J. Fox look edgy.

I think he'll need new clothes to go with his punk hair.

Yes, my blog is back...but goodness, it is soooo slooooow.

While my blog was down I worked on an "about" page to keep my mind off of it. "about ljc" It's all about me. Warning: you will get an annoying pop up window, because I haven't gotten around to getting a real site yet. So sorry.

And don't forget I have a guestbook now too!

Back

So blogspot is back up. For some people.

My office is crammed with pink flamingos teettering back and forth on their bases. I may have to get up and turn them the other direction.

They are all staring at me.

Memorial Day

After my folks left this afternoon, Aaron and I made the wood bases for the flamingo project at work. How am I going to get all these into the office? *ugghh*

Sunday

My family and I spent the morning chugging around Canandaigua lake on the Canandaigua Lady. We planned to go see the balloon festival, but it was too windy, the balloons couldn't launch.

We went to see "Pearl Harbor" instead. Pretty good flick. You always walk out of these "historical films" wondering how much of what you saw was historically accurate.

For instance, years from now when they make a film on the story of my life, will they correctly portray my elmentary school years or will they have to spice it up a bit?

Saturday

I took my family to the Butterfly Conservatory on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. I love going there. Its a huge enclosed greenhouse with thousands of butterflys of 40 varieties fluttering around.

During the intro they tell you if a butterfly lands on you it's lucky. I trotted around waiting expectantly for a whole flock to land on me. I lingered around the plates of rotting fruit the butterflys feed on waiting for one to hop on my shoulder.

Imagine my mom's delight when two butterflys landed on her head.

Clearly she looks more like rotten banana than I do.

Yahoo! The boss just came around and told us to leave. I need to go home and prepare for my parents (and ratty little sister) arrival.

I am looking at a steamboat ride and hot air balloon festival to keep them entertained this weekend.

Oh, and there are so many movies out! "Pearl Harbor" opens, "The Golden Bowl" is at the Little, "House of Mirth" at the Cinema and "Moulin Rouge" opens next friday! So...many....choices!

Day Three of Blogglessness

Ok...I am really upset now. Pouting, frowning and sniveling. Will anyone ever come back to my site after blogspot is back up? Am I going to have to shell out for a real web page?

Thursday, May 24, 2001

Ack! I can't take it! I check my blogspot page every ten minutes. "Is it up yet? No."... "Is it up yet? No."...."Is it up yet? No."
Day Two of Blogglessness

Thank goodness I have other things to keep my mind off my lack of internet presence.

The pink plastic flamingos arrived today. (they flew all night and boy were their arms tired! *hah!*)

After lunch, my phone rang and the display read NOR3 DOCK. "uh oh" I thought. The gruff voice on the phone said "I've got six boxes of pink flamingos down here. Where do you want them?"

It's very exciting. Nearly three quarters of them have been spoken for. I have tasked Aaron with making bases for them this weekend, seeing as how we haven't any sod to jab them into. I will have to make a special flamingo for him as a thank you.

Bloglessness

feel-LING ang-GREEEEE! Blogspot has been down since last evening. I can post this to Blogger, but I can't publish my page. Makes me feel like stomping around. *grrrrrr*

Nokama

Tina brought me back the coolest Lego from Disney. It is part of the Bionicle Technic set.

There is a whole storyline behind these little guys. "Once a paradise, Mata Nui has become a place of darkness and fear, ruled by the deadly Makuta. Now six mighty heros, the Toa, have come to gather Masks of Power and challange Makuta."

I love their samurai-like names and bio-robotic design. Mine is Nokama. She is a Turaga, who are protectors of the island villages. "Turaga Nokama is the protector of Gali's legend. She knows more about the ways of the oceans and rivers than anyone but Gali herself. Nokama has a reputation for resolving disagreements and bringing the Turaga together with her practical logic. All of the Turaga respect the way she listens to all sides of any discussion."

This goes on and on. The backstory is quite detailed. Of course I want everyone now. This could turn out like the Star Wars lego problem.

Currently my Turaga is beating the stuffing out off the little aliens standing on my Wacom Tablet.

Discovery

Easter candy tastes just as good a month later. *munch munch*

Guestbook

Thanks to the kindly prodding of Squibnocket, I have added a guestbook, LJC's Guestbook, for everyone to leave comments in. (nice ones...right?)

Recovery

Joel had his back surgery this morning. Everything went fine, but I hear he is in a lot of pain. *drugs...pain killers...gimme gimme*

He'll be gone from the office for three to six weeks, depending on how he mends.

Sure is quiet in the cube without him.

Errr....I hope the National Growers Association of Fiddlehead Ferns don't come after me.
Here's a tip.

If you happen to take a bath with a bath fizzie that releases rose petals into the water DO NOT leave the petals in the tub after you drain the water, because they WILL leave petal shaped stains in your tub. Yeah.

Fiddle De De

I found something curious in the produce section of Weggies. Packages of "Fiddlehead Ferns". They are the tightly curled, chopped off piece of the end of a fern.

The sign said "Springtime treat: only in season two weeks of the year". "A delicacy!", I thought to myself. Fascinating! How could I deny myself this succulent treat? Aaron and I bought a package and took them home for dinner.

I started to change my mind as they were sauteing in the the pan. They looked like little curled up worms.

Well, they weren't all that great. When I got an equal forkful of fern and mushroom generously doused with garlic and green onion they were mildly palatable. They certainly weren't up to all the hype.

If you ever see me throwing something that looks vaguely like a houseplant into my shopping cart again...for petes sake, stop me.

Saturday

Apparently something I am allergic to burst into bloom today. I can't stop sneezing and my nose id ruddig. *sniff sniff*

Sneezing in rapid succession makes me hungry and sleepy.

Projects

I have been quite busy at work...not with a big ecommerce promotion or new online app.... but nifty EAT team events. We have been working overtime (sorta) to plan this stuff. I am so excited. I really think it helps the overall morale in the office.

Coming up are the Ethnic Food Fest, Summer Picnic at Frontier Field, and our "together again" celebration.

In June when our entire group is in one office again, our "together again" celebration will coincide with the first day of summer. The theme is going to be tropical. Smoothies with little paper umbrella will be served and we will stuff Tony into a grass skirt.

But here is the thing I really want to focus on. At the celebration we will unviel "B.O.P.". Birds on Parade! Inspired by the Horses on Parade that are scattered all over town, we are going to purchase pink plastic lawn flamingos and have people decorate and place them around the office.

I am planning on making a Buningo.

Careful

On my way into work, I was behind a Porshe Boxster and in front of an Audi TT.

I drove very, very carefully.

Lists

My Handspring came last night. So today I am busily entering addresses and downloading applications.

I have entered such important data as "Movies to See" and "Videos to Rent".

Wednesday, May 16, 2001

Several things to note:

* I found another blog that links to me, Sara at glimmer.org. I think she likes Ewan McGregor. I dunno, just a guess.

* A big thank you to squibnocket for the cute bunny birthday e-card. Bunnies are good for any occasion.

* I read an interesting post on Panties in a Bunch. Yesterday, she posted "I'm so jealous of this girl".... and linked to me. When I read it, I sort of glanced around me wondering..."whaaaa?".

I can list any number of reasons why one would not want to be me.

1. I walk like a duck
2. My hair is curly in the back...stick straight in the front (how messed up is that?!)
3. I get car sick
4. I am harrassed by my apartment work crew
5. I get a lot of junk mail
6. I am extremely near sighted
7. Apparently my wisdom teeth need to come out
8. I am harrased by my little sister
9. No one sends me email (very much)
10. Birds keep pooping on my balcony

See! There is nothing to be jealous of.

Easily Amused

Does anyone else watch "Dark Angel"? I know it can be quite cheesy and unbelievable, and some of the lines....ouch....but I still watch it! I am always glued to the set. Ack!

Max was supposedly genetically engineered with cat dna, which gives her feline-like super agility and senses. Last night, due to the cat dna she was in heat. *snicker*

It must be the result from a childhood of watching "The Incredible Hulk" (I even had green Hulk sneakers...loved them!) and the "Six Million Dollar Man".

Jenga Joel

We played Jenga at lunch today.

In Jenga, everybody is a winner...except the loser that knocks it down.

As you can see, Joel was particularly delighted.

Minty

On my neverending quest for minty fresh breath, I discovered a new kind of mint at Target. It's called Myntz Instastrypz. The mint is actually a clear one inch by 1/2 inch sliver of "paper". 24 sheets come in a tiny little box.

You place the sheet on your tongue and it disolves. Fascinating!

Tina tried coating her tongue with two sheets for complete coverage. I try to hold my tongue down so the mint doesn't stick to the roof of my mouth.

Joel thinks it looks like LSD.

Monday

Blogger was down the past few days. I was able to post but not publish on the weekend. On Monday I couldn't even post.

Monday will forever remain a mystery.

Mother's Day

I didn't see my mom today, but last weekend I gave her a present. I got her one of those garden gazing balls and wrought iron stand. They seem to be making a comeback. It looked nice in her rock garden.

Since I am the mother of a parakeet, tortoise and hamster, Aaron got me a mother's day gift. Who am I to argue? He got me an antique Autographic Junior(accordion style) Kodak camera. It goes nicely with my collection.

A lot of Birthday

Today...I have a birthday cake hangover.

Is it wrong to have cake and ice cream for breakfast? heh heh.

Saturday Surprise

Aaron pulled one over on me again. Weeks ago when he asked what I wanted to do for my birthday I told him I'd like to go out to dinner with all my friends and then go dancing.

I never heard anything else about it. When I asked him this week what was going on he made a sad face and said that he tried, but everyone but two emailed back busy. I shot question after question at him about who was doing what etc (I am an infamous wheedler).

I didn't believe him. I was convinced something was going on last night. Everytime we pulled into a parking lot, I scanned the area for familiar cars. I was certain people were going to jump out from behind trees.

It wasn't until I was at home in bed that I realized there was no surprise. I had a good time with Aaron but I was sort of bummed that no one wanted to do something on my birthday.

In the morning I cleaned my house and folded laundry, not suspecting a thing. Tina, Aaron's partner in crime claiming she felt bad we couldn't do anything on my birthday, called and suggested we go to Jillians and then out to Red.

Under normal conditions, I would have suspected something. I would have caught certain details such as Abby actually not being busy Friday night, the i-zone camera in Aaron's Jeep, the bag of "shorts" that Aaron was taking along to give Matt. But having heighted security the night before left me tired and suseptable.

Even as we walked into Jillians and I saw Ken jumping up and down, I thought "Oh that's nice, Ken came". Then I saw EVERYBODY. Everyone was there with a big Alien cake and presents. And the bag of shorts was a bag of Alien party favors. We ate, we played games, we went and danced at Red.

They got me good.

Birthday Night

For my birthday, Aaron took me out to Mundo Grill and a 3-D Imax movie. So now I am stuffed full and have brain overload from animated objects flying at me.

Oh and he got me a Handspring Visor Deluxe. (good thing I didn't go get one myself) It's on backorder 'cause I wanted green so only the "slim leather case" is here. I open it up occasionally and poke at it like it's the real thing...."beep boop beep bop".

Birthday

Best thing about my birthday today thus far? A message on my phone at work from Hannah singing "Happyeeeeee Birthdaaaaay to yoooooooo". Oh, and two Hannah original paintings. Sure to be highly collectable in the future.

Doodler

Ever since Matt pointed us towards Pocket Pig, Joel has been searching for a drawing program for his Palm Pilot that will export pics over to his computer. Yesterday he finally had success. The lovely sketch of a drunk and violent Doughboy is featured here.

While Pocket Pig makes charming sketches of her meals, Joel isn't quite sure what to do with his new found abilites.

Since Grandma gave me birthday money, I am thinking of mosying on down to Computer City and getting myself a Handpring Visor. A green one.

I want to make sketches too.

George Grill

For a birthday week surprise last night Aaron made me grilled portabella mushroom sandwiches on my new George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine. They come in iMac colors now, and I have indigo.

I was always a little sus-pish of the George Foreman grill. It had that whole "as seen on TV", infomercial feel to it. But my co-worker had one and loved it and he has a rather high standard of quality. I can now attest, it does work really well.

It grilled up the mushrooms perfectly and even has a bun warmer under its little clear blue plastic lid.

Bun warmer. That is a funny thing to say.

Horses on Parade

Tuesday we left the office and went out to the parking lot next to Frontier Field for free hotdogs. We had no idea why there were free hotdogs. Turns out we were unveiling our very own horse for "Horses on Parade".

I had wondered why I was seeing large strangely shaped tarp covered bundles around Rochester this week. Just as Boston has it's fish and Chicago has it's cows, we have our horses. The program was sponsored by High Falls Brewing Company (used to be Genesse Brewing Co.) across the street from work. There will be 150 fiberglass horses all around town. All proceeds are going to charity.

I like 'em. Some people (joel...again) think it's not "art", that it's completely commercial. That doesn't really concern me. I just like seeing them around. When I go to other cities that have animals on parade sculpture I try to have my picture taken each one I stumble across.

I heard from Tina that the horses apparently are quite "anatomically correct", but I will make no comment on that.

Veggies

Last night Aaron and I went and got little vegetable plants for my wee garden. I now have cherry tomatoes, red peppers and basil. I expect to be munching all summer long.

Rant

Let it be known that I am never recommending another movie to a friend. Call me thin skinned, but I cannot bear the ridicule when said friend (joel) does not have the same opinion of said movie (Charlie's Angels). *Ridicule being the problem, not the differing opinion. Yes, it was silly, yes, it was mindless...but I enjoyed it and it entertained me for two hours.

All I know is that if it were me, and I knew someone really liked something, I would not call it stupid. Not everybody has the same taste. Not all movies, books and music can be exactly what you like. I might say it wasn't my kind of movie, or I wasn't crazy about it...but calling it out and out stupid is a direct insult to my taste and essentially my personality (read: if you like this movie you are an idiot).

There is big difference between saying you don't like something and saying it is stupid.

Happy Tea

I am still trying to drink my beelion glasses of water a day. In fact I seem to be more fascinated with beverages in general. Right now I am partaking of some Arizona RxStress Tea. Not that I am overly stressed....more like irritated. I figure two more bottles and I should be an agreeable puddle.

 Sody Pop

On the road trip home this weekend, Aaron and I stopped for some refreshments. I got a bottle of Green Apple Jones Soda. Yum! It was the first I have tried a soda from these "little guys".

Jones Soda is not just a beverage, it's an experience! You can send them a photo and if they like it, they will put it on their bottle! Their web site is crammed with interesting things. You can vote off a flavor "Survivor" style.

So I am now poring over my stash of photos to find some to send. Wouldn't it be nice to find your photograph on the side of a cool refreshing beverage!?

Gutsy

I think I need to be more aggressive. However the words "pushy" and "loud" do not appeal to me. I think I am going to get the book, "Why Good Girls Don't Get Ahead, but Gutsy Girls Do."

That is going to be me. Gutsy Girl.

Birthday Week

Thanks to my good friend Kristen, I have adopted her practice of "Birthday Week". A birthday is much too important to be narrowed down to just one day. From her I learned that the celebration begins a week before the actual birthday. Each day you get a special treat...a little gift, a movie, a foot rub...all leading up to the grande finale, the birthday. (Usually it is a significant other that is assigned the task of carrying out Birthday Week)

Birthday Week started off with a bang on Friday. So far I have gotten the "Return to Me" soundtrack, a bar of Dirty Girl soap and "A Bad Girls Guide to the Open Road" handbook. And I have been "right" a lot. (birthday girls are always right) I love Birthday Week.

I guess it would actually be "Birthweek".

Saturday

Wedding #2 was lovely. There were lilacs everywhere...the church and reception hall smelled sweet with them.

Best part....the groom is well known for strumming his guitar as a church youth group leader. At the wedding he planned to perform a few numbers. Little did he know, the bride had replaced his old guitar with her wedding present to him... a shiny new Taylor he has had his eye on for years.

Brides sometimes get a little teary eyed on their wedding day. This time the groom was pretty choked up too.

Survivor Finale

Tina came over last night to watch the end to Survivor 2: Austrailian Outback. Boy did they drag that out. Thank goodness we had faux kettle korn to see us through.

Yet Another Wedding

Haulin' home for another wedding this weekend. Hello Rt. 15. I am a little miffed we are going to miss the "Films on a Shoestring" this weekend.

By the way...this spring...anyone who gets married, gets a fondue pot from us.

Thursday, May 3, 2001

It's going to be a long day.

Thursday Evening

note: It WAS a long day. A day long all hands on quarterly review meeting. ugghhhh. Thank goodness we never get around to having a quarterly review every quarter. I was quite envious of Joel and Tina playing games on their Palm Pilot and Handspring. MMmmm. Time for one for me.

Hummingfood

The person that lived in my apartment before me, must have had a hummingbird feeder. Every year Mr. Hummingbird comes poking around as though he is looking for something on my balcony.

This year he won't be disappointed. I picked up a cute feeder that looks like a flower and a box of hummingbird juice mix. I added the water and stirred it up good. It looked like Kool-Aid. I was sorely tempted to taste it.

I hope he shows up to his little liquid buffet soon. I might have to get a second one so he can bring a friend to dinner.

Flowers

I planted flowers out on my balcony last night. (Aaron helped) I am very pleased with them. There are Marigolds, Petunias and Pansies. Aaron planted a pot of Strawberries too.

Of course I had to have acrutraments for my little flower garden, so I got name stakes and "time to water" worms.

Mirror

Heather put my Guster picture up on her FOJM (Friends of Jezebel's Mirror) site. I am number 849!

BeTTle

Abby sent me a link to a site that sells kits to turn your VW Beetle into an Audi TT hybrid. I admit it looks pretty cool, but I couldn't bear the thought of hacking up my bug.

What I really want is the Meow Mix Mobile that the company also made. Goodness help me if I see the Meow Mix Mobile rolling down the street. I will chase after it just like I would the Oscar Mayer Wiennermobile.

May Redesign

Mr. Smartypants (aka Aaron) sent me an email commenting that he was surprised I didn't redesign my blog with a banner that said "May is Jenny's Birthday month! Yay!!"

Ok, so I have been dropping lots of gift hints. There's nothing wrong with that.

And yes, this month I abondoned my usual design of holiday themes for a nice pink (such a nice b-day type color) and a banner with my mug on it.

May is National Jenny month. There I said it!!!

Redesign

He he he! Pink! Tah-dah!
