Campfire Sandwiches

We are going camping this weekend with my parents and I'm pretty excited, so I have been testing out some camp food. We picked up these camp cookers to make campfire sandwiches.

My first try I used swiss cheese, goat cheese and mushrooms. All I do is butter the slices of bread and clamp them into the sandwich press with the ingredients inside the two slices of bread.

We cooked them over a fire in our outdoor fireplace.

Look how toasty they turn out! I love the tree design it toasts onto the bread.

Crsipy and toasty on the outside. Warm and gooey on the inside.

  1. We have one of these but it doesn't make a cute little pattern like yours does - jealous!! :)

    You can also put jam or canned fruit (like apple pie filling) in between the bread for a dessert! :)

  2. I remember making pies with one of these when i was a kid - trying out the different variations - like thin sliced apples, a swipe of nutella or caramel spread and cinnamon - top with some cinnamon sugar.

    oh my! warm, gooey, toasty awesomeness.

  3. I heard this amazing idea that I haven't tried called "Banana Boats". You slit a banana (leaving it in it's peel) and fill it with mini marshmallows and chocolate. Wrap in foil and put in the fire.
    Pull out when you think it's done. Heard it is fab!
    BTW -> love your blog

  5. My husband is going to want one of those! He's going camping with my son this weekend. He just got a steal of a deal on a really nice tent at Academy. We have it set up in the back yard right now. :) The kids wanted to sleep in it last night. LOL

  6. I know you love your new house but I think that fireplace is one of your favorite things. Have a great weekend and hope to see pictures when you return. P.S. got the Yudu to work. Yeah!

  7. I think that's the only thing my camp kitchen is missing! How did I ever outfit myself without it?

  8. weirdly coincidental, one of my co-workers today mentioned an innovation to the classic campsite s'more: using a Reese's peanut butter cup instead of plan chocolate bar. Oh, and did you know that now you can get marshmallows with cocount on the outside? My mouth is watering just thinking of the possibilities!

  9. We call these bushpies. We always make them pizza like - with pizza sauce, salami or ham, and cheese.
