Dole Plantation and Pineapples

I told everyone before I came to Hawaii that I was going to eat pineapple til I popped. I love pineapple and the thought of being where it is grown fresh was so appealing. I made sure visiting the Dole Plantation was on our to-do list.

We rode the Pineapple Express through the pineapple fields. They are such a strange looking fruit and the way they grow looks even stranger.

Rows of pineapple plants.

Aaron the ukulele playing pineapple and Jenny the hula dancing pineapple.

I kept hearing about the WORLD FAMOUS Dole Whip. It's a pineapple frozen... ice cream? I'm not sure if there is dairy in it. It's very tart like pineapple. Very tasty too. Wish you could find it places other than the Dole Plantation!

  1. Dole Whip is available at Disneyland, Disneyworld and one lucky little yogurt shop in West Hollywood.

  3. No way! I always thought pineapple grew on trees ... maybe like a coconut? Thanks for the pics, it's so beautiful there!

  5. The other thing I found nuts was how long it takes a pineapple to grow. Don't feel so bad having to pay $4-5 for one at the grocery store anymore!

  6. I've been to the Dole Plantation and posed in those very same cut outs. I am sure I have a picture of me somewhere. The Dole Whip was pretty amazing from what I remember, though, it has been 10 years.

Glad you are enjoying/enjoyed your trip to hawaii!

  7. I wonder if you could make it like one makes the frozen banana ice cream? Maybe added a little greek yogurt to ad a bit more creaminess?

  9. If you're looking for other flavors, I've seen Dole whip sold at random ice cream stands around upstate NY (Finger Lakes). The most common flavors seem to be orange and raspberry :)
