Lake Thun - Castles, castles and more castles

We were chatting with one of Aaron's Swiss classmates and he highly recommended that we take a boat ride on Lake Thun. There are several boats that run sort of like ferries from Thun to Interlaken, stopping at town ports along the way.

We couldn't have asked for better weather and it was a great way to check out the little towns (and castles) while enjoying the view of the surrounding Alps.

My favorite stop was at Oberhofen to visit the castle, Schloss Oberhofen. The main part of the castle was built in the early 14th Century.

This castle is right on the lake and even has a turret out in the water.

Once again you can walk out into that turret and check out the little room. Visitors rub the mermaid's belly for good luck.

Inside the castle is still furnished in 18th & 19th Century style. We spent two hours exploring and taking photos.

The rooms look as though the family just got up and left yesterday.

All the way at the top is a Turkish smoking room. Aaron felt quite at home and is now contemplating building one in our attic.

So many cool things to see! We had taken over 2000 photos at this point.

I was pretty much obsessed with the turret.

Took a LOT of pictures of the turret.

We rode all the way across the lake to Interlaken, had a bite to eat and then hopped on another boat back to Thun. At this point the sun was setting and we had an entirely different view of the lake and mountains.

Who put that light up at the very top?!

Pulling into the town of Spiez.

It was a great way to spend our last day in Switzerland.

One more castle shot!
