Biking the canal path

After work we went for a bike ride along the canal. I love biking on the canal, it's so nice and flat.

Aaron caught me taking a bike selfie - hah hah!

The picture I was taking. Zoom, zoom.

At one point we were racing with the Sam Patch.

It's nice to have a destination when you are on a bike ride. Ice cream is a good choice. We stopped at Abbotts for butterscotch frozen custard cones before biking back.

Rolling on over to Rolling Thunder Festival

I saw a poster on the Le Petite Poutine truck advertising the Rolling Thunder Festival at Ellison Park. The website said it would be a "food truck rodeo on steroids". Who can resist the call of a herd of food trucks? Not me.

It was a nice day so we rode our bikes to the park. Aaron rode Green Lantern and I rode Triple Chocolate.

Every food truck I could think of was at Rolling Thunder. It was quite a site to see them all parked in a big semi-circle. You can follow Rolling Thunder on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

I had Le Petite Poutine again. Two days in a row!

We also stopped at the Eat Me Ice Cream bikes. All the bikes got a chance to hang out together.

Biking season

I was counting the days til biking season. My bike loves having it's picture taken.

Drone on a bike. I don't mean the big guy. The thing on his back.

Don't forget your helmets like we did! Dumb dumb dumb!

Cutest Scarves

Two of my Easter jars held scarves from Fahsye. One has bikes on it and the other has anchors. Two of my favorite motfis... perfect for snazzing up outfits this spring.

Pretty soon I'll be able to dress head to toe in anchors.

Manly Birthday Week

Aaron had a week of man birthday week gifts. A Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker! (ok so I really like the jar part)

Chainsaw chaps... so he doesn't cut his leg off.

Ohhh and what's that?! I know I said ****I**** wouldn't get any more new bikes... I didn't say anything about other people in the house! It's a green vintage Schwinn and he named it "Green Lantern" because there is a pedal powered headlamp on the front of the bike.

Peanut butter pie and pugs to top it all off!

Happy Birthday Aaron!- Love, US!

Introducing Triple Chocolate: Vintage Schwinn Town & Country Trike

I think it is safe to say I have a bit of a bike problem. Lately I've had a hankering for a trike. Lo and behold Aaron found one on Craig's List. A vintage Schwinn Town and Country Trike.

It's brown so we call it "Triple Chocolate". I need to look up the serial number and see what year it is. My guess is it might be from the first year they made them, 1972. I started looking at Schwinn catalogues and that is the only year I saw them offer brown.

I try to ignore the fact that whenever they show them in the catalogue it's featured with senior citizens.

I love the basket on the back. Perfect for running errands around the neighborhood.

In fact I delivered some Genesee Center for the Arts and Education Chlli Cookoff posters using it. Perfect!

Triple chocolate is actually pretty light for it's size. Steering it is the weird part. The slightest turn of the handle bars and it wants to woosh off in that direction. It may need some adjustment.

I love that Schwinn still makes the Town and Country. They are quite a bit more than what they cost when they first came out. I paid less for this vintage one than it originally cost... great Craig's List deal!

I felt a little guilty about getting it... it's not my birthday or anything. In fact, it's Aaron's birthday week. I told Aaron this was the last bike for sure. (for now)

Life is like riding on the back of a tandem bicycle. If you are quite short.

I have a list of things I want to do this summer and going for bike rides is high on it. Last night we packed up Banana Split, the Schwinn Twinn tandem bike I got Aaron for his birthday and headed for the lake.

It is an odd thing to be the one riding on the back of a tandem bike. Especially when the person in front is 6'5". You can't see much ahead of you.... only the scenery whizzing past and an occasional glance behind you of where you have been. You just hang on and pedal like crazy. Kinda like life right?

Spokes & Ink

Today was Spokes & Ink at the Genesee Center for Arts and Education. I had a poster up for sale along with others to raise money for the Center. They also had bands (Aprille's brother's band the Moon Zombies!), postcard making and food vendors (Le Petite Poutine Truck!).

Aaron fixed up his Schwinn Twinn for the event. Look familiar?

Spokes & Ink 2012

I was excited to hear that a date has been set for the next Spokes & Ink Bike and Poster Fest. My bike and I were there last year and it was fun!

Artists can submit posters for sale at the event and there will be food, music and more. I've started kicking around a few ideas for my poster this year.

So save the date, tune up your bike and check it out!

Bike Mower

We have had some unseasonably warm weather in Rochester. Yesterday it got up to 68 degrees! Kinda nutty for Rochester in March! With the taste of spring in the air, it's really hard not to think about gardening and other outdoor activities. Mowing the lawn for one. My distaste for the gas mower has led me to seek alternatives. I willingly huff and puff behind a push mower to avoid the noise of the gas mower.

Then I saw someone post this to Facebook. A bike mower!

Get. Out. of. Here. Combine this task with something that I love and we have a winner. Most of the bike mowers I have seen look hand cobbled together. Seems like there would be some challenges to angles and whatnot, but if you could get this to work it would be so great!

Fall ride

Tina and I went for a bike ride by the canal after work yesterday.

Great exercise and a nice way to enjoy an autumn evening. Love the leaves crunching under the tires.

Spokes and Ink: Rochester Bike and Poster Party

Next weekend two of my favorite things smoosh together into one event. Spokes and Ink is a bike and poster party from the Genesee Center for Arts and Education. You can bike on over and enjoy local food and music.

Local artists were also invited to submit poster designs and they will be up for sale at Spokes and Ink. On a whim I designed a poster featuring Oscar, Hugo, Stewie and my birthday bike and I was thrilled when I was chosen!

The party will be at the Genesee Center next Saturday, August 27 from noon to 6pm.

So if you are looking for some art for your walls or just want to hang out check it out next weekend!

Bike ride

Aprille and I went for a bike ride along the canal today.

After breakfast in Schoen Place we rode from Pittsford to Fairport...

... and back again.

... a total of 13.8 miles!

I liked this ramp on the side of the steps for rolling up your bike.

And I liked this cat graffiti under one of the bridges.

Bike Desktop Wallpapers

I wanted a desktop wallpaper of my bike, so I adjusted some of my bike beauty shots in photoshop to look vintage. Here they are for downloading if you like them.

Bike beauty shots

I have been pinning bikes on a bike board over on pinterest and after I got my birthday bike from Aaron I realized I needed a beauty shot of my new bike too.

So I loaded my bike basket up with newly bloomed peonys and posed it around the neighborhood. I really wanted to take pictures with Hugo in the basket but alas - he has grown too big to fit in it. I tried stuffing him in believe me. No go.

Bike Instagram!

I was getting some funny looks from my neighbors but it was worth it.

I did take it for a ride after the photoshoot.

It rides like a dream. I did constantly feel like the handlebars and seat were crooked because I was the one that put it together but other than that it's as smooth as buttah!
