Dad Starter Kit

Aaron has always been a great dad to the pugs but I was pretty excited to get him dad-to-be gifts for Father's Day. I like that they had special cards for the occasion.

Aaron calls this his Dad Starter Kit. Cigars and a humidor, super dad t-shirt and a Tilley hat.

A beach tradition

Aaron got me this set of blue opal earrings and a blue opal starfish necklace at the end of our beach vacation.

Every year as we leave OBX we stop at a shopping area to pick up salt water taffy, gifts and ice cream. We also visit the same little jewelry store and Aaron gets me a little memento. I went through my jewelry boxes and tried to pick out what he got me each year. We have been to OBX 12 times but I could only remember/find ten pieces. I know the red garnet necklace was the first thing he got me. The rings were last year. I love the tradition of it and I remember our trips everytime I wear one of these.

Valentine's Gifties

I was super pleased with the gift I pulled together for Aaron this Valentine's Day. It has a theme! I love themes! It's a Survivalist Valentine's Day Pack!

I filled a miliary A.L.I.C.E. backpack with everything needed to survive a zombie apocolypse - a handbook, fire starter kit and a pocket knife. So romantic.

Aaron's gifties weren't too shabby either. Wyatt is practically drooling over the balloons.

He got me a new turntable and two Lana Del Ray records! So cute!

Plus there were flowers.

And chocolates.

And another total surprise... a Gemma Correll doodle book and scented pencils! It was one of those gifts that I opened and thought "How do I not have this already?!"

Father's Day at the beach

I think it's great that we got to spend Father's Day at the beach. Probably a perfect day in my dad's mind.

Aaron and my dad cobbled together this flag pole for Aaron's Navy flag today.

For Father's Day, the pugs got these Rochester cufflinks from Knotty Owl for Aaron.

They also got him this awesome t-shirt from TeeSpring.

Illustrator spotlight: Carla Bartow (local, not local)

I got these Carla Bartow goodies for Aprille and Tina and was finally able to deliver them so now I talk about them! (I hate to ruin a surprise).

I had seen Carla's work at the Genesee Center for Arts and Education and just loved her style. It wasn't until I saw her work at Orange Glory that I put together that she worked at that delightful eatery too. When I saw this bag on her instagram feed, it reminded me so much of the delicious food she used to make there I had to order one for myself while I was ordering Tina one!

I say "used to work". Carla moved to Portland but I still follow her on Instagram so I can see the amazing work she does. I had to get Aprille, who prefers tea over coffee, this "Tea-Rex" print. Carla doesn't live in Rochester anymore but her hand carved block printing still counts as shopping local to me!

You can find Carla Bartow's work for your own walls on Etsy too.

Alex and Ani & Other Valentine's Gifts

Aaron surprised me with not one but three Alex and Ani bracelets for Valentine's Day. I have been following them on Instagram for awhile. I like how each bracelet has a charm that has meaning. And I like that they are made in the USA.

I was so excited to give Aaron this handcrafted six pack beer carrier. I had it customized with his name and then picked out bottles for in it that I thought had cute names or labels like "Smitten" and "Night Owl".

I also couldn't resist getting him these Boba Fett cutfflinks.

Christmas gifties

Santa was very good to me this year. I got this vintage Pom-Pom Aluminum Christmas Tree. (My mom is the Queen of vintage finds!)

Aaron got me a Fitbit. Lest anyone think he is trying to give me a hint, I have been looking at these for awhile. It's not just for tracking steps but also sleep patterns and how much water I drink.

I got a lot of other gifties from Aaron I can't wait to use. Baked goat cheese anyone?
