Moving on up in 2016

I'm not truly in the new year mindset until I have made the transition over to a new May Book planner. I traded bikes for bees this year.

We also had to trade up our juicer. After many years faithful service from our old juicer, it suddenly stopped working. Seeing how much juicing I do, Aaron got us this fancy new one. It's like the Cadillac of juicers.

Mmmm carrot apple.

And my classic green juice. Carrot, apple, and spinach. And whatever else I might have hanging around. Grapes, oranges, or kale.

Juicing wheatgrass

Aaron loves wheatgrass juice. With all the juicing I have been doing, it only seemed right that I try my hand at wheatgrass juice so he can have some at home. It's not hard to grow. My crop of wheatgrass grew really well right on the kitchen counter.

Aaron ordered us a Wheat Grass Juicer. I love how old school it is. I had my doubts as to how well it would work but boy, it did the job. It squeezed every last ever-lovin bit of bright green juice out of that grass. Tart and tasty! And so good for you!

Juicing 2013

New Years is when I usually start feeling virtuous about my diet. Some years we have done a detox. This year I am rediscovering our juicer. First day off Christmas vacation and I made this green monster juice. I don't follow much of a recipe, I just throw in what we have in the kitchen. This batch was granny smith apples, carrots, grapes and spinach. Sounds weird, looks awful, but tastes great.

Williams-Sonoma read my mind and has a big promotion around juicing and juicers.

They even have a site with juice recipes, tips and a 30 juice plan!

UPDATE: Here is the juicer we bought - a Waring Pro. It is affordable, works great, and is easy to clean. We have now been using it for two years and it's still going!

Detox 2010

After indulging over the holidays and in Las Vegas it was time for Aaron and I to detox. I decided we would start the Martha Steward body + soul magazine Whole Body Action Plan. We bought a juicer and Wii Fit Plus and we are on our way.

The plan starts with a four day detox diet of soup, juice and smoothies. The smoothie at the top is a mango smoothie... or so they claim.

The liquid on the right is how the mango smoothie we made turned out. Seeing as how it also has avocado and swiss chard in it, that shade of green is not surprising. I don't know how they got theirs to be such an appealing color. On the left is the cold cucumber and mint soup we had for lunch on day two of detox. It wasn't horrible - but I won't be craving it anytime soon. We are sticking with the plan - it is only four days. Four days of things like carrot/beet/cabbage/watercress juice.
