Solar powered spookies

My blog is starting to sound like a Dollar Tree ad, but I can't help myself. We go there for basic items like bulldog clips or rolls of craft paper. Then every once in awhile I find something really cute. Like these Halloween solar toys. I really like the ongoing action, but I also spend too much time moving them around into bright spots so they keep going.

Went a little crazy over the solar toys at the Dollar Tree. #halloween

A video posted by Jenny Cisney (@ljc) on

Actually I have been on the lookout for these for awhile. I spied them on someone's desk a year ago, but every time I went to Dollar Tree they were sold out. This time when I saw them, I got one of each kind.

ljcfyi holiday gift guide: Plastic

Recently I discovered a little store in Rochester called Plastic. They carry the little designer plastic and vinyl toys that come in blind boxes so you don't know what you are getting. They are really popular with collectors... such as myself.

I was thrilled when Plastic moved into a store front in the South Wedge. All the better to feed my habit.

My favorites are the Dunny collection but I have been known to branch out.

If you have someone on your list that is a collector of cute things you should definitely stop by Plastic and check it out. They also have some interesting prints, clothes and other items.

Dog Park

Aaron and I were in the Vegas FAO Schwarz and saw these roly poly stuffed animals from Dog Park.

Aaron got me one which I really thought was a cat, but the tag said he is a pomeranian. It was challenging to wrestle him onto the plane, but I got him home!

World Egg Day

Did you know last friday was World Egg Day? I wish I had realized because I love eggs. It makes me think of the I love egg song.

On the I love egg website you can even download I love egg desktop pictures.

Awhile ago I found I love egg charms in a machine like the Peek a Poohs.

How ridiculous is that? An egg disguised as a bunny. The yolk pops out.

I got these stuffed Deery Lou and Mushroom Christmas tree ornaments when I was in Las Vegas. I love Deery Lou. I think they are cute enough to have up year round.

cupcake

While I was in Atlanta for work, Tina was in NYC for work. She brought me back mini-cupcakes from Eleni's and a Tokidoki milk figure. The cupcake looks huge in the photo but it was actually only two inches tall. WAS.

latte

All I brought back for her was a t-shirt. It's a very cool t-shirt though! More on that later...

eviroboy

The newest additions to my toy collection, Eviroboy characters, Himelin and Buster.

I especially liked the box Himelin came in, which had the words "The weirdos are always excellent!!" on it.

peek a poohs

Recent Peek a Poohs.... everyone dressed up as one another. Craziness!

It starts with one and the next thing you know you find yourself dragging your friends into toy stores everywhere. It is so hard to resist these little figures. I just got two new Kid Robot Dunnys and a Tokidoki Cactus Friend.

So I may not be bringing home many plastic bags, but now all the plastic is in the form of vinyl toys. At least they don't get thrown out.

I take some comfort in knowing I am not the only one... I found three books on the subject at Amazon.

I Am Plastic: The Designer Toy Explosion
Vinyl Will Kill: An Inside Look At The Designer Toy Phenomenon
Full Vinyl: The Subversive Art of Designer Toys

Back when I lived in an apartment, Aaron got me a Rock Tumbler for Christmas. I tried to make shiny shiny rocks, but the Rock Tumbla (we like to call it that sometimes) was so stinkin' loud, I was worried it would disturb my neighbors... I had to stop tumbling.

Recently, I was rooting around in my attic when I found the packed away Tumbla and since I now have a basement it was time to fire it up. Of course to make shiny shiny rocks it takes three steps... coarse, medium and fine polish... each step taking two to three weeks.

We almost went mad from the constant rumbling noise in the basement, but a month later and the rocks are done!

I found these eggs that you put in water and in 12 hours a chick peep starts poking his way out of the egg. The chick peep is one of those toys that grows when you put them in water. It was fun to check on him every morning and see how much he had pushed out of the egg.

Chick peep started to get so big I had to move him over to a bigger glass. He is so squidgy it is taking all of my will not to pinch him.

Aaron and I were shopping for Lauren's first birthday when I saw these knitted stuffed toys at Target.

They are called Grannimals (site under construction... but also are here and here) because the creator was inspired by her Grandmother. She recalls her Granny creating ten different animals, each one different, inspired by her ten grandchildren. Each one was knitted to reflect their character. When Granny was done, each one was placed in a beautifully decorated shoe box.

Suddenly it was "Lauren who?" and I went home with a Lucien bunny.

Don't worry... we got Lauren one of these...

I was getting frustrated with my Dunny experience so I also got a Kid Robot Labbit (again... not a typo). That way I knew exactly what I was getting. I picked the one with the pipe accessories. I would have liked the ice cream cone one, but they were sold out of those.

When I was in Vegas, Tina and I went to Urban Outfitters where they sold these Kid Robot Dunny (not a typo) toys. They are like trading cards in that you don't know what Dunny you are going to get in your box. She got me one and then I went back twice for more. It is addictive. I really wanted the "Hello my name is" Dunny but I kept getting the Crash Test Dunny.
