Gardening season

When we got back from PA everything in our yard had bloomed. Lilac, dogwood and redbud.

It was time for us to get cracking with some yard work. We planted, pulled weeds and mulched.

Things you need for gardening: NPR set to Splendid Table. Iced coffee. Cute, fitted garden gloves. Sturdy tools. Garden scoot-a-doot. Water gun for squirting mouthy pugs that bark at dogs walking by.

Stink Horn

When we came home from San Diego, the grass in our yard had become... longish. I spied something bright red in the middle of it and went out to investigate. I found what appeared to big a long, skinny tongue growing out of the ground! One instagram later asking what it was and I had my answer... a stink horn mushroom!

The stink horn's scientific name is Phallaceae and it comes in many forms. Some are really crazy looking. Google it and you will see.

"Stinkhorns are amazing mushrooms, notorious for popping up suddenly and unexpectedly in urban settings. They are very diverse in appearance, but all of them share at least two features:

1 - Some part of the fruiting body, at some stage in development, is covered with a foul-smelling slime.

2 - The fruiting body arises from an "egg," traces of which may disappear by maturity."

Delightful!

Front yard mushrooms

Aaron and I were working out in the yard when I noticed lots of little mushrooms around a big old tree.

I have no idea what kind they are but they are cute.

Someone on twitter said they look like fairy houses.

The more I looked, the more clusters I found. I love mushrooms!

New vintage style lawn chairs

Summer is long gone and I just realized I never blogged about our new lawn chairs. My grandparents always had a few metal lawn chairs like these and I really wanted some. I saw a few at auction but they were always expensive even though they needed work. Then we found these retro versions at Lowes on clearance at the end of summer! We got the entire set for less than just one wood glider that were previously looking at cost. I think they look cute on our front patio/porch thingy.

New bird feeder

Aaron got me this bird feeder and I just love it. Not only do I like looking at the birds that come around to snack out of it, but I love the shape and the wood design. Lucky birds.

Hammock Swing

Last year my mom got me this hammock chair swing, but I didn't have anywhere to hang it. Until now. The giant tree in the back is just the right size.

It's very comfy.
