White Noise

So Joel and I are all settled in our new cubicles. We thought it amusing that there was a loud air duct right above us just like in the old area. Then Scott let us in on his discovery. It's not an air duct. It's one of many speakers placed above our ceiling panels to pipe white noise into our area.

Imagine your TV on Channel 2 constantly.

I understand the reasoning behind this. Without it one could probably hear the phone conversation of someone five cubicles over. Couldn't it have been the sound of crashing waves instead? There is no volume control.

One of my coworkers (who shall remain nameless to protect his identity) slipped into a black catsuit after everyone left yesterday and crawled up into the ceiling. *Mission Impossible theme kicks in* He snipped the wire to his white noise generator.

I think if I ever have a punk rock band... I will call it "White Noise".
