Grilled Cheese

When we were on holiday we had no problem finding good food. I was especially pleased when we encountered fancy versions of grilled cheese. In London it's called Welsh Rarebit and in Paris it's Croque Monsieur.

It wasn't until I was home for a few weeks and reading Offbeat Living that I realized... I NEED to be making these at home!

The Welsh Rarebit (left) is sometimes called Welsh Rabbit but there is no rabbit involved, believe me I made sure of that. I had some at afternoon tea in Fortnums and Mason. There was bacon on top.

In Paris, Tina had the Croque Monsieur (which means "Mr. Crunch") while I had Croque Madame which is the same thing but with a fried egg on top. Martha clearly has been spying on me because she had an article in her last issue about grilled cheese and had an excellent recipe for Croque Monsieur which Aaron and I made for dinner last week, complete with white sauce. Cheesey goodness.
