Do you remember Greg Kinnears character in "You've Got Mail"? He played Meg Ryan's character's boyfriend that shunned technology. He insisted on using old typewriters to write his articles.

I thought of him when I looked at mytypewriter.com. I must admit there is something satisfying about the brisk click click of an old typewriter as a opposed to the clack clack wiggly softness of my computer keyboard. And look at all the nifty stuff you can make with the keys! (just a note... the keys are taken from typewriters that are beyond repair... perfectly good innocent machines were not ravaged for these items!)

  1. i saw typewriter bracelets at the monthly antiques fair where i live. there was a huge pile of removed keys & customers choose the letters/symbols they like. my friend & i referred to it as the typewriter graveyard the rest of the day. thought it was very clever, yet very expensive.

  3. Oh man, I've been looking for an old typewriter like the one pictured here. When I was a kid, my dad gave me one that looks almost exactly like your pic, but somehow along the way I lost it. Too bad. I used to type stories and letters on that thing all the time, and I loved the click-click-clicks and the sound it makes after you hit the "return" key. Good memories.

  4. I've wanted one of those bracelets forever, and this post inspired me to look on Ebay - where, of course, I found several, priced way lower than either My Typewriter or Uncommon Goods. Yay!
