Leaf peeping at Letchworth State Park

I wanted to go leaf peeping and Aaron wanted to fly his drone. So we hopped in the car and took a day trip to Letchworth State Park.

I tried out the new Instagram app, Boomerang while we were on the trip.

Letchworth consists of 14,350 acres along the Genesee River.

The river has created 600 feet tall cliffs over thousands of years.

The river also has three big waterfall, the largest of which is 107 feet high.

All of it perfect for shooting video and photos with a drone. Look at this amazing video Aaron took of Middle Falls.

We walked by the Glen Iris Inn to see the spot where the Ice Volcano formed during the winter.

Can you believe this natural fountain was this giant Ice Volcano last March?

We kept walking up to Upper Falls and the Portage Bridge.

So many nice photo ops along the way.

I think we hit the peak of leaf peeping season.

I haven't taken a foot shot in awhile.

We may or may not have ventured out onto a certain bridge to take photos.

That bridge was creaking and groaning as the train inched across. It WAS built in 1875. Still holding up.

What a great day leaf peeping and droning!

Ice Volcano

The temperature actually rose out of the single digits and I am finally feeling better from my cold so we took a little road trip. We went to the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth Park to see the Ice Volcano.

The Ice Volcano was formed during the freezing temperatures from a man-made fountain inthe middle of a pond in front of the Inn. Park founder William Prior Letchworth built the fountain in 1860 and it shoots water 30 to 40 feet in the air.

The Ice Volcano grew to be 53 feet high and 84 feet in circumfirence as the last offical measurement recorded. It's a record size for the fountain.

The Ice Volcano got national attentiona as it was picked up by USA Today, the Today Show and Mashable.

While we were there we went to check out the Middle Falls. It was almost totally iced over.

We hiked up a bit to look at Upper Falls.

It just felt good to get outside for awhile.
