Look at this Wegmans display for Mother's Day! They are killing it. A baby blue tandem bike with the Wegmans logo? Too stinkin' cute.
Of course I love a good bike theme. Birthday week has begun and it's kicked off with a bike theme. Aaron found this super cute bike wrapping paper.
And inside was a bike canvas. Perfect for our second staircase which is hung with all bike art!
Last year I heard there was something called Ice Bikes in Buffalo. Of course I wanted to check it out but every free weekend didn't work out weather-wise. We were having such a mild winter, I thought maybe the ice was slushy.
This past weekend we HAD to go to Buffalo to pick the Smart Car up from the garage so we decided we might as well check out the ice bikes.
Turns out the bikes are at Canalside, where there is actually an ice rink. I thought it was just a frozen canal but it's a maintained rink so there is more control over the ice. The weather was mild when we visited but the ice was fine. There were lots of people there skating and hanging out.
Buffalo did a really nice job with Canalside. You can rent skates, ice bikes, try curling or even get a snack in one of the tents or a food truck. They have nice heated tents with lockers and seating for changing into your skates.
Back to the ice bikes. They are a very cool invention of a bike mounted on a frame with skate blades.
I really wasn't sure how well they would work but they really cruise along! The bikes are very responsive and easy to maneuver.
The bikes can be rented by the half hour which is plenty of time to get your fill of biking around the rink.
I'm so glad we got a chance to try out the ice bikes this winter. I think they would be great somewhere like the Rideau Canal in Ottawa where you could bike for miles. And I would love something like Canalside here in Rochester! Winter activities help you get through the long season of snow and ice.
I saw a poster on the Le Petite Poutine truck advertising the Rolling Thunder Festival at Ellison Park. The website said it would be a "food truck rodeo on steroids". Who can resist the call of a herd of food trucks? Not me.
It was a nice day so we rode our bikes to the park. Aaron rode Green Lantern and I rode Triple Chocolate.

I had Le Petite Poutine again. Two days in a row!
We also stopped at the Eat Me Ice Cream bikes. All the bikes got a chance to hang out together.
Bike were everywhere in Switzerland... just as in everyother European country I've visited. The train stations had "bike parking lots" that were jammed full.
Bikes in Europe are great... so well built with special details. Look at the leather seat on this one!
Did you know... "In Almost Every European Country, Bikes Are Outselling New Cars"? We could use a little bit of that.
This Sunday is Spokes and Ink Fest at the Genesee Center for Arts and Education! I am super bummed to be missing it, as I'll be in San Diego. I tried moving flights and vacation around every which way and just couldn't get it to work. It's my favorite event at the Center as it combines bikes and print! If you are in town, you must go!
This is my poster submission for Spokes and Ink this year! It will be for sale along with other bike posters at the festival. The design has to be 100% original so I recreated that map of Rochester in Illustrator. That. Took. Forever.

Bike crushing is full on here in Germany.
I love these slim black bikes. High handle bars, swooping frame, chain guard, little generators to run a front light, basket on the back. Sweet.
Our inn had bikes to borrow. There are bike baths everywhere so you can bike over the entire island.
We took two bikes and headed out.
We biked through the animal refuge... looking for alligators. Instead we saw lots of huge white pelicans and other birds.
This was the closest we got to seeing an aligator.
Today was Spokes and Ink at the Genesee Center for Art! There were some great posters for sale.
I was pretty excited to see my "Biking Like Cats and Dogs" hanging up there. A few people there were buying it so I'm hoping for a nice amount to dontate to Lollypop Farm.
I made a letterpress Spokes and Ink card.
Tina and I biked there and there were lots of others that did too. I spent some time eyeballing the other bikes.
Overall it was a great event and I'm hoping they do it again next summer.
