Honeycomb

Aaron got us this block of raw honeycomb with honey and we have been eating it spread on warm buttered toast. It sounds strange but the beeswax is very thin and is not like eating wax at all. It's actually so tasty!

Honeycomb is is filled with concentrated nectar and is honey at it's most raw and healthiest state. It is slightly chewy, sweet and really fresh tasting!

Honey Bear at BlogHer

The first spot I made a beeline for (he he) at BlogHer was the National Honey Board table. I wanted to thank them for the opportunity to come to BlogHer and check out their information. I picked up several booklets with honey recipes and information about how the honey bear is endangered.

Of course I had to have my picture taken with the giant honey bear. BlogHer may be over, but now it's time to enter the Cooking with My Honey Bear recipe contest! The first prize is a 9 piece Le Creuset cookware set! *drool*

Honey and BlogHer

Last winter I didn't get a ticket for BlogHer. Now, BlogHer has rolled around and it turns out I will be in NYC during the conference. Tickets have been sold out for ages. Even being a Chief Blogger couldn't get me a ticket, which is only fair, really, to those on the BlogHer waiting list. So I posted to a ticket swap looking for someone that didn't need theirs. I was thrilled when the National Honey Board offered me a ticket they had!

Really I couldn't believe of all groups, the one to contact me was one affiliated with honey. Longtime readers know I LOVE HONEY. I like putting it on my pizza, in my tea and when I had a killer sore throat this winter it's the only thing that made it feel better.

I am so excited to go to BlogHer and I am also excited to learn more about honey. It's peach season and they have a recipe for Honey Packed Peaches.

And look at all these beverages with honey in them! I want to try the Horchata and Limeade.

Tina would pass out at the first one but there are even wallpapers available for download at the honey website.

Cantaloupe Parfaits

When we saw my parents last weekend they brought us three super ripe cantaloupe. I swear the cantaloupe they get back home from local farms taste sweeter than any melon I have bought in a store.

I used one of those cantaloupe to make these melon parfaits. They turned out pretty good despite the fact I messed up. Here is a tip when you are using a recipe from a blog post. Take a moment and read the comments first, because if there are any mistakes in the recipe others will point it out and that can be extremely helpful. Might prevent you from doing something like mixing yogurt with cantaloupe when you were supposed to add lemon juice.

But like I said they still turned out okay. The recipe called for a mixture of yogurt and honey. I was pretty happy to use some of the giant jar of honey my grandma gave me. It was my grandfather's... he loved honey as much as I do.

Honey

I have always liked honey... I even like it on my pizza (try it! it's good!). So I love that Chuck on Pushing Daisies is a beekeeper and I really loved this season's first episode where she goes to work undercover at Betty's Bees.

Does this show have the best set design ever? I think so.

A bit overly excited by the Pushing Daisies bee episode, I felt compelled to buy two bees wax candles at the farmer's market. They are supposed to burn for 11 hours.

I also got a little jar of raw honey. It's supposed to taste better and some say it reduces the symptoms of hay fever.

Bee keepers have a good sense of humor.

I just found these mini bottles of honey. Barry's Busy Bee Honey from the Bee Movie. Just the right size for taking to work for my tea. And so cute.

Too bad DO NOT MIRCOWAVE is right across Barry's chin.

Back in February I read about these solid honey drops called honibe. I thought it was brililant. I love honey in my tea, but bringing it to work inevitably means getting all over my keyboard.

Now I am seeing them mentioned on blogs everywhere. Time to put in an order.

 

We picked this honey up at the Pittsford Dairy. Tupelo honey is interesting... produced from the Tupelo gum tree in northwest Florida.

It is tasty in my hot tea.
