bumblebee

Aaron is really excited about the Transformers movie opening July 4. He has been talking about Optimus Prime and Autobots whenever he has a chance.

When I was a kid I watched Transformers once in awhile when Smurfs was a rerun... but not enough to know as much as he does. But there is one character that I think is interesting.

Back in the day the Transformer Bumblebee was a robot transformed from a VW beetle. For some reason however, for the movie VW did not let them use the beetle. I thought that sounded crazy. So Bumblebee is going to be a Chevy Camaro instead. What a bummer.

  1. I swear that is exactly how conversations about Transformers go in my house.

Him: Autobots! blah blah blah Optimus Prime!
    Me: Bumblebee!

Bumblebee is the only thing I remember.

  2. Wow, I had NO idea! That is a travesty. Bumblebee represented a sort of humble everyman (everybot?) to which humans (and non-alpha males) could relate.

A CAMARO?!? Blasphemy. And what's up w/ VW? Oh, we're too good to be in movie featuring cars? Look what The Italian Job did for the Mini, what Back to the Future did for the DeLorean, what Little Miss Sunshine did for ...hey, THAT was a VW bus! Argh.

Also, I don't like how all the robots have so many "sticky-outy" parts. There was sort of a blended simplicity to the cartoons - you can see the difference in your photos. Even the toys weren't so beladen with projections. Weird.

Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog, which I do evertime my wife (www.uberpaper.blogspot.com) leaves it up. Feel free to check us out. Hers is cute, mine is funny; we both emulate you whenever possible! :)

  3. first time commenter, semi-regular lurker. i think the reason why there is no vw bug is because gm is a sponsor for the film, and gm made the call. that's what the hubby and his entertainment buddies have heard through the grapevine...

  4. We saw Pirates this weekend and Transformers was one of the trailers. The entire audience cheered during and clapped at the end. I am not a big "action" fan, but I am planning to see it.

  8. The reason is cause when they were buying the licenses from VW, VW wanted a lot more money then they planned. So instead they went with chevy, but there is the VW bug in the movie at the car dealer

  9. 3 things ruined that movie for me, 1: i was DEVISTATED, and i mean completey DEVISTATED that umblebee wasnt a bug.i am a big VW fan, and the one thing that really stuck out in my head when i was watching TF as a kid was bumblebee...F$%^ VW.softcocks. like 'dr nate' said, look what the italian job did for the mini coupes.

2: Optimus Prime had hot rod flames? WTF? why is it that when hollywood get a hold of a good idea, they have o F%^$ it right up by trying to modernize it? some things are best left the same, just like he rest of the TF's.they were all shit too.

3:and also another 'dr nate' quote "I don't like how all the robots have so many "sticky-outy" parts. There was sort of a blended simplicity to the cartoons - you can see the difference in your photos. Even the toys weren't so beladen with projections."

well put.once again, trying to modernize everything.

n e ways. thats my thorougher opinions.
