The Men of Sitcoms

I have noticed a peculiar trend on television sitcoms. I first noticed it in animated shows. The married men that star in "Family Guy", "King of the Hill" and "The Simpsons" all have a similiar trait. They are all....well... quite pudgy. It is interesting to note that each of their wives are much more fit and attractive than their spouse.

These men are also not very bright. They are sloppy, goofy, lazy and scaredy cats. It is the woman that is the voice of reason and keeps a clear head.

These comedic characteristics are crossing over to regular sitcoms too. Doug on "King of Queens" and Chris on "Daddio", while not quite as dumb as their cartoon counterparts, still carry the characteristics of being overweight and *ahem* balding. While their wives are quite attractive. And smarter.

Is this some sort of commentary on our society?

Or is it that the white male is the only person we can make fun of these days?

Am I watching too much TV?
