Social Media Thoughts: Pinterest adds cool new feature & my chance to make history is dashed

I am a big Pinterest fan. I also like to think I was an early adopter... eagerly telling everyone how great Pinterest is.

Recently I thought of a funny word to describe something I often do on Pinterest. I see something cool and I pin it, not realizing I have already pinned it once or even multiple times. I'm a pinpeater!

When I came up with this word I thought - FINALLY! I have invented a social media slang word! It will join the ranks of "Fail Whale", "pintastrophe" and "Twitterati"!

Then I learned that Pinterest added a certain new feature back in May. If you have already pinned something it will let you know. Very cool. But there goes my catchy term - certain internet fame down the tubes. "Pinpeater" is dead before it even left the ground.

Pinterest - success, pass, fail

I use Pinterest a lot for recipes, especially for parties. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. I made these taco dip cups for our pumpkin carving party. They were great... but really what was there to mess up? They were the perfect individual servings for guests.

For our Halloween dinner part I made these bacon, cream cheese thingies and this brown sugar & garlic chicken. They turned out okay, but they sure didn't look like the photos in Pinterest. The chicken did not look browned and golden and delicious. It looked flabby and pale. Tasted ok but bleah. That's why there are no pictures of it.

Crack Bread

We have a party to attend tonight and I needed to make an appetizer. Where do I look? Pinterest of course!

This time I decided to try Crack Bread. Is it because of the "cracks" in the bread or the addictive nature of the snack? You be the judge.

It is a sourdough loaf, sliced, filled with cheese and bacon then drizzled with bacon ranch sauce and baked.

I used a sharp cheddar cheese which didn't melt the best and stick to the bread chunks as you pulled them out. I think that will need some experimentation.

Otherwise it was very good. Crack good.

More Pinterest

I joined Pinterest over a year ago and have been happily and obsessively pinning ever since. I was finding lots of amazing things among the people already on Pinterest and a handful of my friends that joined. It's my go to spot for recipes and craft inspiration.

A couple weeks ago I started getting way more follows than usual. Seemed like a Mashable article peaked a lot of interest.

Since then Pinterest has exploded. News is breaking that Pinterest Becomes Top Traffic Driver for Retailers and Pinterest Rivals Twitter in Referral Traffic.

I have to say, I sorta wondered if this was coming. I first had a clue when the folks from the Salvage Gallery told me they were getting all sorts of hits from Pinterest pins pointing to my blog post about them at the Clotheline Festival. Sometimes I go just to see what is being pinned from my blog.

Then the day came. The day Aaron joined Pinterest and it went from kittens, recipes and nail polish to guns, beer and motorcycles.

Christmas Brunch and Pinterest

Yesterday we had our annual Christmas brunch. Thanks to Pinterest I was able to try some new recipies. I even made breakfast nom Pinterest board.

Actually I made this one up myself, a berry parfait, inspired by this recipe. I mixed Wegman's Greek yogurt with honey, then layered it with raspberries, blackberries and vanilla granola.

Tina brought pop open cans of Pillsbury sticky buns and I put them in the waffle iron! I saw the Waffle Iron Sticky Buns first on Pinterest. They cooked so quickly and were delicious! Especially with the frosted topping. Ignore those burnt ones lying to the side. The recipe said to leave them in there for 2 minutes but my waffle iron only took one.

I also found these on Pinterest. Bacon, egg and toast cups from Martha Stewart.

They were so easy to make!

I even added a little swiss cheese to the tops.

Thanks to Pinterest we had a great brunch!

Cooking with Pinterest

Some of my favorite things to post on Pinterest are new dishes to try out in the kitchen.

I have a board called Nom Nom. If I can't decide what to make for a party or occasion, I go to this board and scroll through.

Just recently I pinned this recipe for Potato Rings. They look soooo good! "It's like onion rings only not!"
