Spring snow

We seem to be paying for the mild winter we had with snow in April.

My daffodils and hyacynth don't know what to do.

I thought winter was over. See above for the answer.

First winter storm

After a pretty mild winter, today we finally got a snow storm like we are used to. It's the return of the snow muffin!

I knew we were going to get a lot of snow because I saw the milk and bread forcast. Isn't this funny?!

My car is under there somewhere. Definitely calls for a snow day.

Pugs put on their coats and plowed through the snow like champs.

We ended up getting 19 inches!

Walking in a warm winter wonderland

Maybe it's an apology for the bitter cold winter we had last year but this December has been unseasonably warm. Today is was 69 degrees... breaking records for the area.

I felt really bad taking my window boxes out to make room for Christmas decorations because the flowers were still blooming!

It's so warm, the pugs have traded in their Christmas sweaters for Christmas t-shirts.

First snow

Our first snowfall of the season and the pugs are completely baffled. It's like it's new all over again every year. Although it is weird we have leaves falling on top of the snow.

Velvet frost

I'm sure we have already had frost this season, but none that made the leaves and grass look like velvet.

I was supposed to be walking the pugs, but I couldn't help but snap a few shots.

Pug foot photobomb.

Nanugs of the North say it's way too cold

It was minus 8 degrees in Rochester today. And that is the actual temperature, not the wind chill.

The pugs bundled up.

I've been cracking up over this weather app Aaron downloaded... Effing Weather.

One warm day

After we were hit with freezing temperatures in Rochester and watched Buffalo get hit with 7 feet of snow, today we had a weather blip of 65 degrees. The pugs didn't know what hit them.

Yes. 65. 65 degrees.

Snow ready.

We spent yesterday afternoon outside "winterizing" the yard. We put away lawn furniture, flower/veggie pots, lawn oraments and wind chimes. Aaron raked leaves, emptied the rain barrel and stirred the compost. As if on cue, this morning we woke up to snow.

I was so glad we did the work and was relieved the yard was ready for the snow... but my head wasn't ready for it. Seemed like it could have waited until December.

The flowers still had a bit of color.

Not all the leaves had been sucked up and carried away.

And the pugs don't have their winter gear out yet.

So glad we got the yard ready for winter weather yesterday. I'm not ready for the snow mentally though.

Polar Vortex & Rochester Winter Weather

I don't know what the wooly bear caterpillars predicted but hoo boy it's been cold and snowy so far this winter. If you are going to live in a winter aggressive city like Rochester, you need to learn how to cope with it. I can bundle myself up until only my eyes are showing. My co-workers don't even blink when they see me rolling into the office like this.

I like to document the weather we get. Last week we got a snow storm that left a snow muffin on our patio table.

It seems to become quiet when there is snow like this on the ground.

Poor Smart Car.

And then early this week we had the Polar Vortex. We didn't get much snow, unlike our Buffalo neighbor to the West, but temperatures dropped below zero.

Literally cold air from the arctic came to visit.

A new sight. All the windows in my office frosted over.

We survived the polar vortex and went back to the balmy double digits. Just a couple more months to go!

Weather

I thought fall was here but yesterday and today the temperature in Rochester reached the nineties!

But there is a saying in Rochester, if you don't like the weather, wait a day (sometimes just an hour). We could very well have frost by the weekend.

Heat Wave

We are in the middle of a heat wave in Rochester. This is when the pugs and cats start to dangle.

They get floppy and loose and just sort of hang there.

Dangly fur feet everywhere.

And then when temperatures rise over 90 degrees the critters just go melty. Pug puddles.

Cats fall over where they stand and melt too.

Soggy

It feels like it has been endlessly raining. At least I don't have to water our plants.

The side porch is my outdoor hideout when it rains.
