Breakfast on the newstand

I couldn't pass up this magazine when I saw it. A magazine all about my favorite weekend meal - breakfast/brunch!

There are lots of tasty looking recipes, but I really love this super simple suggestion of Nutella on toast. The photos in this magazine are mouthwatering.

Mmm-mmm eggs! I have a porcelain egg holder like that so I feel I am well on my way to mastering these recipes.

One thing I haven't tried is making biscuits from scratch. I love this picture too. I wish my countertop looked this picturesque when I baked!

Breakfast & Brunch Magazine = Breakfast Cookies

I spotted this issue of Better Homes and Garden: Breakfast and Brunch when I was Christmas shopping and had to pick it up. An entire magazine about breakfast food! Brilliant!

I was reading it in PA over the holidays when I mentioned out loud there were breakfast cookies. Both my dad and Aaron started hinting pretty heavily that a batch of those would be most appreciated.

I love the idea of breakfast foods that A. you can make a big batch of for the week and B. you can grab and take with you. So I was more than happy to bake a batch of these breakfast cookies. They turned out great. They aren't as sweet as a typical cookie but very satisfying for breakfast.

Note that I didn't have any dried cherries on hand so I actually used chopped up marachino cherries. I didn't hear anyone complain.

I would like to make these Double Oat Breakfast Cookies next!

Domo Magazine

A few months ago I got an email from someone in Japan asking if they could use my domo pictures in a magazine.

I said if they gave me photo credits and sent me a copy - sure!

Right before the holidays a package arrived for me and there was the magazine with my pictures inside!

It also came with this cute little domo bag!

Anthology Magazine

I just heard about this new magazine, Anthology.

They describe Anthology as "A new quarterly shelter and lifestyle print magazine that takes a narrative approach to its coverage of home décor, travel, design, entertaining, and culture."

I loved some of the photos I saw, so I ordered the first issue to get a better look.

Their blog is worth a look, they had this post about using book pages as wallpaper.

Urban Farming Magazine

I found this magazine, Urban Farmer last week and I think it was created just for me! I was interested in every article - home dairy delivery, growing sprouts and potatoes, obnoxious squirrels, backyard chickens, city bee keeping and for Aaron - home beer brewing.

Ad Age Women to Watch 2009

Last week, while I was at the beach - with no internet connection and a weak, intermittent iPhone signal - this article went to print. (irony!)

I was listed as one of Advertising Age's Women to Watch for 2009! It's so amazing, I can hardly believe it! What an honor!

It was kind of a rush to get the interview in before I left for vacay and get a nice picture taken, but it all came together nicely. So exicting!

Ljc at the Oscars

Thanks to a commenter, Karlene, I got a heads up that I can be spotted in the Oscar's section of this week's People magazine!

On page 52... the first page of the spread... a little above Ben Kingsley's head...

There I am, busily clicking away, my face half obscured by the camera. How cool is that?!

Domino and Zooey

I read today that domino magazine is closing. I feel kinda bad because well...

I saw that Zooey Deschanel was on the cover so I bought an issue.

I am a big Zooey fan.

I even like her band She and Him.

So I thought "Cool! Pictures of Zooey's house." Um, no it was only one room. So I was miffed. I mumbled about it for a few days.

Then I heard Domino was closing. And now I feel bad.

Twilight series

A little more on my new Twilight addiction. I picked up "New Moon" Thursday night and finished it this morning.

Grabbed "Eclipse" while waiting in line at Wegmans knowing I would need it next.

I've decided we are going to the midnight book party on August 1st to get a copy of "Breaking Dawn".

I had to rush out and get a copy of Entertainment Weekly because Edward and Bella from the upcoming Twilight movie were on the cover.

Can't wait til December 12 when the movie is released.

I gave Twiight to Aaron to read which has been kind of annoying as he is snickering and guffawing his way through. "...his ocher eyes scorching... Bah hah hah!" I have had to threaten to take the book away from him on several occasions.

Here are two thoughts I had. If you haven't read the first two books yet, stop here... spoilers ahead.

#1 Bella is so set on becoming a vampire. But hasn't it occured to her that if she does, some of Edward's attraction to her may be diminished? The scent of her blood that is so appealing to him will be gone once she is a vampire right? I am just guessing here.

#2 More of a rant than a question... she doesn't want to marry Edward? Is she INSANE?! Geez.

Man. I am so addicted.

They should. They are projects I did for Christmas 2005 and 2006. And I just provided them for the Christmas Crafts magazine that is in stores now. I had to create samples for the photography and write up the instructions for them. Not hard... but it was time consuming.

It was pretty exciting to see the magazines in the grocery store check out line... and so cool to see my stuff inside! I can say that I am "published" now right?!

When I got my latest issue of Martha Stewart Living, I discovered they included a free issue of her new Martha Stewart Newletter. At first I thought "I so don't need another subscription to something... but then I read it and I was hooked. It comes with "behind-the-scenes news, exclusive photos, product pics, Martha's calendar..." basically a more in depth peek into Martha's life. I found myself talking like I had been chatting with her over a cup of tea... "Martha doesn't need a lot of sleep... but she lets her dogs sleep in her bed." "Martha really likes those Orka silicone oven mitts." "Martha was just in China." Just what Aaron needs to hear all day long.

I also find her magazine body + soul more and more interesting. It has lots of information about  green, sustainable living. This month's issue has tips for a cooler, greener home, natural remedies and the best organic ice creams. I also love the cover with sea shells and starfish. (Reminds me of my vacation... *sigh*)

I saw a copy of this magazine, The Nest, when I was in California and I have been trying to find it in stores since... with no luck. Not even at Barnes & Noble. Turns out they just started making it. It's from the creators of The Knot and is targeted at newlyweds. It started off as a community website.

Right now you can get a free "mini" subscription. I was going to send the "invite a friend" to Tina, but then I realized that when you input your wedding date... and the dates only go back to 2000. Tina has been married 15 years. Don't let that stop you Tina! That's matrimonial discrimination! You go get your free subscription! Fib about your wedding date... that's right... I said it... LIE!

This is the latest magazine I am in love with... Cook's Country. I was attracted to the cover and then I discovered it was from the Cook's Illustrated folks. My friend Joel swears by Cook's Illustrated, but I found the plain black and white illustrations... well... not very exciting.

Cook's Country, however, has all the great info CI has, but it also has cheery photos and graphics inside. I love the recipes too... I always thought about getting Gourmet magazine, but the dishes always seemed too elaborate for me. CC's recipes are mostly down home cooking with lots of 20 minute meals. Crunchy Potato Wedges and Sticky Ribs... Yum-meeeee.
