I was incoherent yesterday. I was drowsy and couldn't concentrate. It happened after lunch, so I have determined that it was what I ate. There are foods that can make you alert or make you sleepy. After consulting some information from "Managing Your Mind and Mood Through Food" I think it was the cheesy chile rellenos that made me stoopid. Here are some pointers:
High protein with high fat will tend to make you drowsy (beef, pork, lunch meats, milk, cheese)
Protein alone or with carbohydrates will make you more alert and motivated (fish, chicken, lean beef, low fat milk, yogurt)
Carbohydrates alone (candy, cookies, ice cream, cake, pie, soft drinks) will make you relaxed and focused. Candy and sugary foods actually have a calming effect, because your brain chemistry influences you more than the level of sugar in your blood.
Starch (bread, muffins, bagels, pasta, rice, corn) will also relax and focus you.
Clearly I should have skipped the chili rellenos and went right for the chocolate mousse cake.
