Sometimes it's a little freaky how often my life coincides with things that "occur" on the web. Case in point.

A friend brought two containers of White Trash Mix that his wife made into the office... one for me, one for Tina. We had them both polished off by noon. I felt a little sick... but I wanted more. The stuff is addictive. I am not a big fan of white chocolate, but I couldn't stop eating it. He brought us another container the next day and it didn't last us an hour.

Tina started making it at home... I was too busy making cookies. Cookie baking completed, I went to Wegmans to get White Trash supplies and they were ALL OUT OF WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS. Also out of tiny pretzels. My conclusion. Everyone in the city was making White Trash Mix.

Here is where it gets interesting. I was surfing and hit Alton Browns blog... and what do you think he has posted about? Uh huh. Here is his recipe for the luscious snack... Two 11 ounce bags of white chocolate chips, 3.5 Cups Cheerios, 3 Cups Rice Chex, 3 Cups Corn Chex, 1 Pound plain M&Ms, 2.5 Cups mixed nuts, 2 Cups small pretzels. I use the bulk section white chocolate chip wafers, no m&ms and only salted peanuts. Make it if you dare.

  2. If you like that... try this, I think you'll love it.
I call it "Puppy Chow" I don't know why or what it's really called:

9 cups chex cereal, 1 cup chocolate chips, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) margarine, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar.

Pour chex into large bowl, set aside. In 1 quart microwave safe bowl combine choc chips, peanut butter and margarine. Microwave on high 1 or 1 1/2 minutes until smooth. Stir.

Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal, stiring until all pieces are evenly coated. Pour cereal mixture into a large ziploc baggie with powdered sugar. Seal and shake until all pieces are coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool.
    YUUUMMMM!!!!!!!!!!! *drool*

  5. My mother makes that, but with Quisp cereal instead of Cheerios. She calls it "reindeer food", though.

  6. I've had that powdered sugar version and I will vouch for it! It's prb not as sweet as the white chocolate, but it's even better b/c it has peanut butter. My friend's mom makes it and calls it "dog food."

  8. Try the white chocolate over popcorn...Awesome! Looks like regular popcorn until you taste it. Everyone LOVES it. Just be sure to remove any unpopped kernals first!

  10. The Peanut Butter and Chocolate version was printed on the back of boxes of Corn Chex while I was growing up. On the box they were called "Chex Muddy Buddies."
