I am wondering if there is anywhere to get large amounts of small polystyrene beads. I have never seen them in craft stores. My mom once made Aaron a huge flannel beanbag, but she slashed two older beanbags to make it.

I think it would be cool to make a bean bag. I am inspired by these Sumo Lounges I saw online. If you could get your own beans there would be no end to the stuff you could make. Like the Cush pillow I got Tina that everyone in Brasil couldn't keep their hands off of. That would be great because those are hard to find, I've only seen them on eBay recently.

  2. Jenny! you have to sit in a lovesac. They are like little clouds. They are stuffed with recycled lazyboys. Here's the website www.lovesac.com. Tehy are worth the money. Go sit in one!

  3. I was just searching online for beads to make my own little Föm pillows! http://www.beanbagbeads.com sells both the "regular" virgin polystyrene beads for bean bags and the micro polystyrene "powder" beans that are used in the Föm and Moshi pillows. Hope this link helps!

  4. I am so glad you asked this question. I was sitting in someone's bean bag chair on the weekend and was wondering how it would be possible to make one. Thanks to these great links, I know where to buy the beads. My boyfriend tried to argue that I should use real beans, but I don't think that would work out so well!

  5. we use packing peanuts to refill ours. whenever we get a package we just dump whatever we got for packing peanuts into the bag.

  6. I live in Seattle and in a store here called Fred Meyer you can find bags of polystyrene beads, they are in with a display selling various bean bag shells, sort of a DIY thing. Perhaps a Kmart would sell something similar?

  7. I am usually far-from hippie but I just read this article in the NY Times Magazine on how certain things in the environment make your breast milk toxic (and just aren't great to breathe in the first place). The author also sounded like she was usually far-from hippie so when she said she replaced the questionable polystyrene beans with one made out of organic buckwheat hulls, I listened. Seems like you a good idea if you had a thick enough cover or liner.

    Peace! [attempt at sounding hippie]

  8. I saw a bunch of those Cush pillows when I was flying after the holidays. Of course they were being sold in the relatively tiny Columbia, SC airport, so I don't know about their being more widely available elsewhere.

  9. One thought, if you do make your own bean bags. Put the beads in their own bag, and THEN into the bean bag. From what I understand, they can pose a great health risk to kids and pets, if they get loose, because they are so light and they stick, they can cause a suffocation hazard.

  10. You would want to find a commercial wholesale supplier- Tapp Plastics doesn't carry them, but someone like Tapp would be good. I can think of industrial suppliers, but none commercial.

I must second the respitory caution on the PS powder. It's a material that gets airborne easily, and also can be given an electrostatic charge easily. It sticks to everything and is super hard to clean up.

  12. I have one of those Moshi neck pillows - have you seen them? They are U-shaped, like a Boppy. They are filled with polystyrene beads. I'd love to be able to make my own things, too! That Cush pillow looks SO comfy!!!

  17. You know, I was at Harmon (discount beauty supply store, kinda like Walgreens) this weekend and I saw about 10 bazillion of those Cush pillows for $7.99. I almost bought one but then thought that I'd never, ever use it. Are they that awesome?

  18. Yes the pillows ARE that wonderful. I recently did about 36 hours over to Australia from the States and yes I was in coach class but I slept - which I've never been able to do on a long flight...crazy but I owe it all to the comfort of the cush!!

  23. Wonderful, I think polystyrene is very useful for our industry, we can build a great variety of things like t-shirts, jackets, beanbags, and so on.

  24. If you are looking a company or store to fill your bean bag chair with polystyrene beads. So I suggest with an online store, there are provide this service for many years. I also took help from there when I faced as similar to your problem, but in my case, I wanted to refill my bean bag.
