Tina has used Netflix and talked highly of it for quite some time now. While I recognized that it was convenient, I still wasn't sold. Today, I tried the two week free trial and after ten minutes I was hooked. I told Aaron to cancel our HBO on Demand.

It isn't just the easiness of having DVDs dropped in your mail box, or the time you can waste trolling through movies rating them (HATE it, LOVE it), or being able to queue up movies you wouldn't normally think about (Solient Green, Clockwork Orange)... it was the new "Friends" functionality that got me. I invited Joel and Tina to be "friends" and now I can see what they have viewed, what is up next for them and how they have rated movies. This has spurred some back and forth jabbing... "When did YOU see West Side Story?!" (Joel), "You gave Scary Movie FIVE STARS?!" (Tina) I also enjoy recommending films... "Jenny recommends What About Bob... she says it is Cinematic Genius" (Joel hates that movie... heh heh)

I gave Aaron a queue in my account but he only gets 1 DVD to my 2. I have controlling interest.

  1. I've been a fan of Netflix from way back when DVDs were in a little tiny section at the video stores. I really love it!

  2. Netflix does have a great selection of movies, plus I love the collections of tv shows you can find (especially British tv!). I've also found I like Netflix better than Blockbuster by mail.

  3. I swear we have parallel lives. We just started Netflix rather hesitantly, and we're absolutely addicted - in fact, as soon as I hit 'publish' I'm going to pop in Eddie Izzard's 'Circle' - can't wait!

  4. one of the nicest things about netflix is that our local distribution center is right near the rochester airport, so turnabout time is really, really short for movies. we tried the blockbuster version of it as well & it just took too long to get a new movie after mailing one in. :)

  5. i felt the same way 4 years ago and finally i followed my brother's advice. Too good to be true? no way! you'll love it!I got rid of my hbo because of it.
the only problem is that they put a new definition to the words "short wait". It's so perfect that even blockbuster has followed suit.
