I picked up this bottle of birch beer on one of our Saturday trips to the dairy. I loved the retro design of the bottle.

When I googled it... turns out The Pop Shoppe is a Canadian company that started in 1969, closed in the Eighties and re-launched in 2004. I am not sure if what I drank was from the Pop Shoppe or if the bottle was just being recycled, but I am keen to try their Lime Ricky and Pineapple flavors.

  1. I think we used to have one of those here in Phoenix in the 70s. They used to give them to the "Wallace & Ladmo" show to put in Ladmo Bags. It was a great time to be a kid. I hadn't heard from them since. That's probably why.

  6. The Pop Shoppe is open again? I have fond memories of their pop from when I was a kid visiting my grandparents during the summer. I will have to see if one is opened anywhere here in Ontario.

  7. You just brought back so many memories from my childhood! The stubby bottles came in trays of 24 and you could mix and match flavours! Lime Ricky is good, but also give the black cherry a try! It was fun to accompany my dad or grandpa to The Pop Shoppe and pick out our own flavours! Enjoy!

  9. Wow, we used to have a Pop Shoppe here in Aurora, CO when I was a little kid. Once a week we'd go in there and mom would let us pick six bottles each.

  11. I haven't seen a Pop Shoppe bottle in more than 20 years! Going to the Pop Shoppe with my mom used to be a highlight! We would buy 12 bottles (bigger than that one), and they came in a red plastic carrying case. My mom would let my 2 sisters and I each pick one bottle of our own. I always picked cream soda!

  12. Yay for the Pop Shoppe! Wow - does that photo bring back many good memories. My 2 sisters and I were each allowed to choose 8 bottles (they came as a flat of 24) - my choice was usually creme soda. :)

  13. I think that Pop Shoppe is a spin from Pic a Pop...check it out on google. I know that they just reopened Pic a Pop in Winnipeg, MB and brought back the wee stubbie bottles! Whee for retro!
