Over the holidays I found this vintage Betty Crocker NEW Boys and Girls Cook Book from 1965 at a flea market. There are a few loose pages, but I loved the photography so much I got it anyhow. I have spotted a few things in the product shots that I would like to find.

The recipes are great too... meatloaf pie with scoops of mashed potatoes? Brilliant! They show how to stick a hard boiled egg inside a meat loaf too. Clever!

The cookbook was from a school library, and I like looking at the check out card on the inside pocket. I wonder what little Sheila Musser or Ernie Ackley made from it?

Ohhhh, that is so WEIRD, I had this book growning up. Just now seeing the pics on your page, just brought back a flood of memories.
I remember pouring over it reading it over and over.

Too bad nothing "stuck" with me, as I am not really much of a cook.

So cool that you found this... I wonder what ever happened to our copy, probably got sold in a garage sale.

My mother gave me that book one Christmas and I still have it - would never part with it :)

did you google sheila and ernie? wonder what they're doing now.

Great find!
Sometimes for breakfast we'll put hard-boiled eggs inside sausage. Well, more like wrap sausage around hard-boiled eggs. Yum!

Man I think I have a copy of that cookbook too, but not the same edition. I think maybe the one I had was from the 70s. I remember thinking that the photographs were soo retro - even in the 90s!! haha.

You Lucky Button!!!
I have a reissued copy I bought from BN a couple years ago..but nothing like the original :D

I have the 1957 edition of that cookbook. The apple crisp recipe is the best I've ever tasted. I am also very fond of the cinnamon muffin recipe.

Neat. And I like Maryse's suggestion about googling.

I want the cat & poodle(?) salt & pepper shakers, and the little yellow pitcher!

Um, is sticking boiled eggs in meatloaf common??? I have never heard of that!

I had that exact cookbook when I was a kid and loved it!

I bought this cookbook when I was a kid at a garage sale. I love it! I loved looking at all the pictures and making a few of the recipes. I loved the layout with all the ice cream! Ice cream flower pots!! :D

So funny! I remember that from when I was a kid, too. I loved the styling; there's just something hilarious about making food look like something other than what it is, right? Meatloaf a la mode. And if I remember correctly, there were classic "mice" made out of pear halves...and maybe a menu for a space-themed party?

Thanks for sharing!

Oh wow! I'm vintage 1963 myself and had that very same cookbook as a little girl. I LOVED it. Thanks for the memories.

I have this book too, although the cover is a little different (I'm vintage '65, so maybe it's a slightly later edition). It's right next the the red & white (pink & white by now) checked Better Homes & Garden's Jr. Cookbook and my Charlie Brown cookbooks. Love it!

maryse - I googled sheila and ernie... and the top hits were this blog... hah hah! It's tough to know if the other hits I got were for these same kids, but sheila may be running a funeral home and ernie hasn't been up to much.

anonymous - yep... there is a pear mice recipe... funny.

Wish I still had mine - I remember making the heart cake.
