I just picked up a new pair of baby blue Chuck Taylors. I am really glad I did, because even though it is almost sandal weather... I won't be wearing any open toe shoes.

After the great toe smashing incident of 2008, my toenail and I have parted ways. It's gross, I know. I almost passed out myself this morning in my hotel room when the separation went down.

Poor toe will be sheltered within these snazzy new Chuckies the next few months. *sigh*

  1. if you're brave enough to DYI, you can get a really inexpensive acrylic nail kit at the beauty supply (around $10) or you can go to a nail salon and they will put an acrylic nail on for you. That way you still have pretty feets until your nail recovers. :)

  2. Bummer about the toenail. But you have fabulous shoes now that you might not have had otherwise. :) FYI -- I lost a toenail several years ago. It grew back in, then fell out again. This cycle repeated three times before the sucker actually stayed attached to my toe. But it looks really weird now. Too weird to expose without nail polish. Sigh. I never thought about acrylic toenails. I'm too lazy for that.

  3. Aaawwww, this happened to me last summer...I could not fore-go flip-flop season so I just sported different Hello Kity & skull band-aids on my big toe :)

  4. I actually really like how the light blue toenail will be memorialized in light blue Chucks :)

  6. Hey I can sympathize with your toenail issues. I had serious problems with two of mine after I got blisters under 2 of them from running. Most of the nail became detatched from the nail bed. I cut them down as far as possible in October. It is April and they have finally started to grow back somewhat normally..enough that I can paint them and wear open-toed shoes. This is a bad time of year for you to lose yours...it will take a while, but your nail should grow back and I'm sure by winter, you'll be back to wearing open toed shoes. :)

  7. Actually you can just paint your toe where the nail should be and it should be ok. I am going through the same thing on my second toe after this huge towel rack landed on it a while back. So don't worry if you don't want to do the fake toe nail- nail polish should be just fine. I live in Fla I am wearing flip flops and sandals come hell or high water!

  9. owie about the toe! i just recently had a toe-owie and it turned out to be broken (i swear the foot of the bedframe attacked me!) now i'm sporting a very fashionable flat-bottomed velcro shoe prescribed by the doctor... if only these came in light blue...

  10. Nico lost his middle nail (after the door slamming incident) & it is slow-growing. At least you can cover yours up! He, of course, takes advantage of the whole thing to flip people off subtly while he shows off his gross fingernail.

  11. You should create your own CUSTOM Chuck Taylors: http://www.converse.com/index.aspx?mode=c1#c1
I just make a lime green pair with a pink interior and my monogram. Sure, they won't be here for 4 weeks, but it's worth it. :)

  12. I lost 3 toenails due to a too tight ski boot. But by the time they actually fell off, there was a little bit of nail already growing in. I wore nude toenail polish, because I wasn't going to give up sandals. In reality, people are too caught up with themselves to notice. And I heard that taking prenatal vitamins will help speed up nail and hair growth. Good luck!
