Park Ave Fest

My favorite part of the Park Ave Fest.. The rescue greyhounds. Each greyhound had a little vest on with a pocket for donations. Too cute.

  6. Thanks for posting this. Adoption groups receive a number of dogs from racetracks several times a year. These greyhounds are "retired" (they are not fast enough to be good racers, have been good but was injured, or just old already) so kennels now work with adoption groups in finding homes for these retired athletes. Rumor was before the proliferation of adoption groups, some racetracks just kill dogs that they deem "useless" already. I think before, the mentality was that greyhounds are LIVESTOCK. So tehy were not protected by law from cruelty & inhumane treatment.. They can be disposed of if not useful to the owner...tough life. Now, a retired racer has a better chance of finding a home. Husband & I fell in love with our neighbor's greyhound so now, we have 2. Those conrtibutions/donations will help the group in paying for the food, health/vet expenses of the dogs while they are still in foster care.

  8. My family had adopted two greyhounds (they’ve since past) and they were the GREATEST DOGS EVER. Lake (short for Lake Bluff) was a caramel cutie and was my favorite. She was so calm and such a loving dog. She and Pheobe used to sleep on their backs with their legs straight up…I guess they all do it at times. They are such wonderful dogs, I highly recommend saving one or two!
