Bonnie & Clyde

Friday night we took Aaron's mom to the little butterfly garden at Strong Museum. It's small but packed with butterflies, turtles, tortoises and birds. We really loved the little finches that were flying around.

We liked the butterflies but the finches really caught our attention. They made the area seem tropical and spring-like.

After talking it over Aaron and I went to a local bird shop and got two Society Finches. Bonnie and Clyde are the newest member of our household.

  1. Cute! And I admit I am always completely fascinated when people have both birds AND a cat. My cat would FLIP OUT NON-STOP! How's yours handling the excitement? :)

  2. Lindsay - He is fascinating but hasn't made any attempts on their lives yet!

  3. We have three cats (two rescued retired ferals, at that!) and three birds and they all get along. I think the cats are a little frightened of the birds, to be honest. Our Caique is a bit of a alpha personality so she's dive bombed the cats a few times and they are terrified of her now. The cats still enjoy watching the birds at the bird feeder, but our birds inside... nothing.

  4. I absolutely love the sound of birds in a home. I've been wanting finches forever, but the ones I want are pricey. Figures. I think they are the zebra finches like in the first pic (behind the white one). Enjoy them!

  5. When I was a kid my parents used to raise tropical birds (mostly finches, budgies, and lovebirds)... we had up to 150 at a time. I really like finches, but now I'm very allergic to bird dander so I have a bird-free home. Finches are so cute, you don't see too many of them any more.
