VSAS, RAS and Social Media

Today I stopped at the Channel 8 studio to do an interview with the Director of Rochester Animal Services about the Verona Street Animal Services Facebook page.

It was a chance to talk about how social media helps the RAS shelter and assists in getting cats and dogs adopted. Here is the interview. It was great to see some of the RAS cats and dogs show up in the clip too!

An instagram look back at 2013

I've been generating a lot of 2013 retrospective videos of instagrams and tweets from the past year.

This is an animated portrait of my Twitter account.

These were my top five instagram shots in 2013. A lot of pug.

These are all the pug instagrams from 2013. That's even more pug!

Here is a look back at Stewie, the sassiest cat of 2013!

Social Media Thoughts: Video, Vine and Instagram

I have a love hate relationship with video. I love sharing and watching videos I have shot, edited and uploaded. But of all content creation, it takes the most time and work.

I also enjoy watching good videos. Cute animal videos like these puppies in pj's or sleepy bunnies. Funny videos like guilty dog or engineers and cats. Or amazing videos like octupus camouflage . But it has to be a really intriguing video to make me give up time to watch it. I get aggrivated when there is informaion I need, like how to fix something, and it seems "buried" in a video. Often times I just want to see a picture because I can look at it and be on my way with minimal time commitment. Video? I have to find my headhphones and plug them in! And if that video goes beyond 3 minutes... well. that is just too long.

When Vine came out in January, 2013 I sort of shrugged it off. Well, I signed up to get my username, but didn't use it. Video was so much work. And I didn't have time to watch it. Then one day, I think we were at a charity walk, and Tina shot one. It seemed pretty easy and quick so I did one. It WAS easy and quick. I was hooked. I was Vine-ing videos everyday. The pugs were the perfect subjects. I started using it for work too.

Then in June, Instagram rolled out video capability. I stopped using Vine. Intagram had a few nice different features, like being able to bring in video you already shot and adding filters. Here is a pretty good breakdown of those features. But that wasn't why I switched. Number one, I had more followers on Instagram. Number two... I didn't want to maintain a second app for video.

I felt badly for Vine. They came up with an easy to use, fun, successful app and someone came along and copped it. Luckily, Vine hasn't died off since Instagram started video, in fact they say they have gained 27 million users since then.

I haven't opened Vine in months. But I'm also not posting a lot of videos on Instagram. Did Vine force me to THINK video? What do you use?

Potatoes & Pugs

While we were home in PA we helped raise potatoes. It was a good crop this year.

I used some that we brought home with us to make comfort food. Hamburger patties and mashed potatoes smothered in mushroom gravy with corn.

Pugs LOVE mashed potatoes.

New Wegmans iPhone app - Aaron video!

I post here once in awhile about things I am working on at Kodak. Today I want to share something Aaron worked on at Wegmans.

They just launched their redesigned Wegmans iPhone App. There are so many cool and useful features like being able to scan in items at home and add them to your shopping list! But I'll let Aaron talk about it!

I just updated my Wegmans app - I'm a fan!

Pugs hit the big time

Oscar and Hugo have hit the big time! Their Tug Pug video has been making it's way around the internet!

They were on I Hasa Hotdog...

... and gawker.tv!

And today Oscar starred with Cali Bean in a video for work... Puppy Love at the Kodak Picture Kiosk!

I think Oscar has a new career ahead of him. Other than sleeping and barking at neighbors all day that is.

This leads me to today's Valentine's Day Gift Guide Selection...

Check out all the great gifts you can make at a Kodak Picture Kiosk - from Personal Greeting Cards to PYNK frames (more on that tomorrow! via Oscar!) You can get a coupon for the cards here.

2 pugs and 1 cat bed. I just wish it would have gone on for a little longer.

Beach videos

I have started to go through all the pictures and video I took at the beach. It was great this year because instead of carrying a camera around in a zip lock baggie, I used a Kodak PlaySport Pocket Video camera. It is waterproof up to 10 feet so no worries if I dropped it in the surf!

I wrote a blog post today about it on 1000 Words blog - complete with video of Oscar digging on the beach.

Pet Videos

Yesterday Oscar and Stewie were on the Kodak 1000 Words Blog. A few years ago I attached a digital camera to Oscar. This time I attached a Zi8 Pocket Video Camera and let him shoot some video.

Stewie shot some video too, but it's not very interesting - you can watch both the videos on the blog post.

Oh - if you get motion sickness, don't watch Oscar's video.

Sunflower Field

There is a sunflower field on Calkins Road that I was determined to get out and photograph.

It was getting late in the evening when I got there, and I missed the best light but I still took a few shots.

Aaron took a few pics too and we both shot some video.

I recommend if you don't like bees you skip the part between 2:25 and 3:54... Tina this means you. Although Tina did pretty well when I showed up at work with this necklace on.

I like honey bees (maybe because I like honey so much?)... especially the big fat lazy ones that graze on sunflowers. Here is the video.

Pug Music Video

Aaron sent me a video today of a French tv show with MGMT performing their song Kids.

Well I love MGMT and I especially love this performance because there are pugs in it. Okay so there are pugs dancing around with girls dressed as Pocohantas and MGMT is dressed as pilgrims, but still.... there are pugs.

New Report

It was quite the afternoon today. Channel 8 news came to my office to talk to me about twittering for Kodak. My desk was sort of a mess and I wish I had sat up straight in my chair so I didn't look like a meatball in a blue sweatshirt, but here it is anyhow.

BubbleTweet

Today Tina discovered an app called BubbleTweet that lets you add little videos to your twitters.

When I got home I did a few of Oscar eating leftover pancakes.

Oscar pancake 1 and Oscar pancake 2

Then Stewie had to get in on the action and show off his "I forgot my pants" t-shirt. Only he is a whole lotta cat to fit in one small circle.

Pug Summer

Aaron sent me this video Pug Summer and I loved it.

The kicking motion demonstrated by the pug is so true. Oscar does the same thing. Hold him over water and he automatically starts paddling away.

That's why Oscar wears a mini life preserver!

Kick kick kick kick. I would love to know how that guy got the pug to wear doggles!

Last night was the season finale for The Celebrity Apprentice. Did you catch the mention of some of the celebrities talking about Kodak on the website Kodak World?

On Kodak World there are three videos from Vinny, Nely and Marilu. Vinny's spot is sooo good... you gotta watch it. Especially Soprano fans. Nely's spot is beautifully shot and it's hard not to get a little misty eyed when she tells her story of leaving Cuba without anything and going back as an adult to get her family photographs. Marilu's spot is funny. I actually got to watch it being taped last week. It reminds me of the Geico commercials where they get celebrity personalities to tell customer stories (which by the way has Mrs. Buttersworth in the latest)

You can watch them all here.

The fruit experimentation continues...

Stewie likes raspberries too.

And one more video for the Oscar fans.

No music for this one, so you can hear the *licka licka sniff licka licka sniff* sound. Watch Oscar try and wipe his mouth on Stewie.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Stewie likes to eat Clementine oranges. But I have to hold it for him.

Chomp, chomp, slurp, slurp.

Thursday, January 17, 2008

We went to a party this evening for the airing of The Celebrity Apprentice episode featuring Kodak.

Check out Aaron and I in Donald masks.

And get a load of this! I was standing around munching on chicken wings and next thing I know I am in front of a TV camera. I was on the 11 o'clock news chattering away! Crazy!

Now that it is nice outside, Aaron has his scooter running. We spent the weekend scootering here and there.

I love riding on the scooter. Somehow you can see more than you can inside a car.

I was inspired to shoot some video while riding yesterday and made this little video. I feel like a regular filmmaker.
