Long time readers should be well familiar with my ongoing battle with the neighborhood squirrels. I just hung some indian corn on my front porch and they have begun chomping on it once again.

This little stinker had the gawl to start feasting before I even backed out of the driveway.

I am sure the squirrels appreciate the gift of food this autumn.

I saw this the other day on cuteoverload. Maybe their pumpkin would have been saved by some corn??? Your pumpkin has such a cool color maybe the corn saved it.

on a side note: I e-mailed you yesterday I believe with a question. I know sometimes you get busy and can't check it (boy I can relate) so I thought I'd leave a note here!

You could try sprinkling red pepper on the corn to thwart them (though you'd have to add some again after any rain).

I have the same problem with a pesky Woodchuck who has moved into my backyard! He thought my veggie garden was a wonderful buffet all for him.

I've heard that Bounce dryer sheets keep rodents and bugs away. Maybe a drying sheet tucked under or behind your decorations would deter the pesky squirrels?

Another suggestion for keeping the squirrels away is old school moth balls or crystals. Sprinkle around the base of the display and they'll stay away. On the stinky side, used cat litter (just the litter, not the "packages") works like a charm too, but is fairly unattractive. Good luck!

It's free food so expect the word to spread fast in the squirrel community. We co-exist with these creatures so it's just up to us to think of ways to prevent encounters like these. Maybe, next time just use fake/plastic corns--not as pretty but less hassle & (injury to unsuspecting squirrels)---just my honest opinion.
