We were supposed to get a lot of snow today so Aaron picked me up from work. We were driving along and almost home when I spied with my little eye something very curious. I yelled "Turn around and park!" I really did shout that and Aaron frantically pulled over as soon as he could. He wasn't even out of the truck and I was halfway down the sidewalk.

What I spotted was this. The warm glow of a brank spanky new bakery! I just love to see new businesses open downtown and I was thrilled that it was a bakery.

I rushed in and started taking pictures in between "I'll have some of these!" and "I'll take one of those!" Check out the goods! MINI CUPCAKES PEOPLE!!!

And single servings of WEDDING CAKE!!! BRILLIANT!!!

This is Nick and Bethany Soures, the owners.... who were very nice and accepting of my bizarre estatic behavior and even let me take a picture of them.

So the name of the new bakery is Goodness Cakes and by new I mean it opened a week ago! It's at 720 University Avenue, in what I think used to be the old police station (now houses a photo gallery too). Edibles and Starry Nite cafe are just a few doors down.

If you happen to stop by be sure to tell them the short crazy girl in the orange coat sent you.

  2. It's great that you're publicizing a new small business. I've always tried to shop locally in my little town, and I'm now in the process of opening a craft shop/studio where I live. Merchants can't do it without customers.

Good luck to Goodness Cakes! If I lived in Rochester, I'd certainly stop by for a cupcake!

  4. Oh man. There goes my diet. The roads are clear...

Funny I was just thinking the other day how it was unusual to me that Rochester didn't have a cupcake place. I mean, we have a ravioli place, tons of frozen custard/yogurt places, it seemed about time.

  6. I love that you were still so excited that you wrote "brank spanky new bakery". It's the "spanky" part that kills me. They must have turned to each other after you left and said, "She's either going to get us business or scare customers away with all the drooling and crazy talk." We kid, of course. ;o) Hopefully all your Rochester peeps will now descend en masse onto the bakery and deplete their stock.

  16. I work 2 seconds away from here, so I stopped by today and picked up some cupcakes and a tart.

When I saw the cupcakes, I said, "Ooooh! They ARE small!" and the woman said, "Yes, word is getting out."

I'm sure they've been inundated with mini-cupcake buyers thanks to you!
