iPhone Apps

When we got our iPhones, I knew I would like the easy access to email and the web browsing. But lately it's been the downloadable apps that have caught my fancy.

You can download all sorts of apps like To Do lists, Facebook browsers, calculators and some really fun ones like these...

More cowbell displays a cowbell that clanks whenever you tap the screen. It also occasionally plays Christopher Walken shouting the infamous SNL line "I need more cowbell!"

Phonesaber displays a lightsaber that let's you change the color of the blade. Then when you wave your iPhone around it makes the familiar swoosh swoosh sounds. Aaron and his friend pulled out their iPhones in the middle of the mall and started swooshing one another and I had to walk away from thier nerdy display of delight.

Urbanspoon checks where you are through the GPS and displays 200 local restaurants. By shaking the iPhone Urbanspoon then choose a random restaurant for you to eat at. Buffalo is the closest city for now, but I emailed Urbanspoon and Rochester is on their radar. Yay!

UPDATE: Rochester is now on Urbanspoon! I'd like to think it is due to my sad email I sent them begging for it to be added!

Have you seen Shazam yet? After you download it, you can have your iPhone listen to any recorded music (doesn't work for live music) and after listening for about 10-15 seconds, the iPhone will tell you what song you are listening to, who the artist is, give you a picture of the cover art, and a link to iTunes to buy it!

I am SO jealous you were able to find one of the new 3G devices! I've been standing in line all over St. Louis with no luck.

One of my favorites is SimStapler. Each time you tap the screen, the red Swingline stapler staples and you get a point. Completely stupid, but oh so rewarding!

Have you tried the Etch-A-Sketch app? I think you would like it. =)

Actually, Rochester is not only on their radar, it's available in the application already.

Oh, and have you tried Twinkle? A Twitter client that's location aware and can list tweets from people in your area.

I'm going to have to get the cowbell app. My favorite is CheckPlease...the free tip calculator and check splitter software. Because at the age of 35, I've given up on doing math in my head.

What a fun new toy! I want one. :) I love the pink. Have a feeling though I'd be overwhelmed with the amount of amazing and wonderful things it can do that I'd never figure even half of them out. Enjoy!

It looks like you enjoy your iPhone so much you already have worn out your indexfinger of all the tuching of the screen=)

I love the urbanspoon app. It's the first thing I downloaded and ends the constant question of, "I don't know, where do you want to go?"
I'm going to have to try out some of these suggestions from your other commenters as well.

My husband has hardly left the computer since July 11th. He's trying to make those apps. So far, he's made a lottery number picker and is working on a golf course one. I tell him he should do a grocery helper one and a wine pairing one. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

What kind of case is that? It looks pretty cute. Is it rubber or silicone?

Thanks for all the iPhone app suggestions! I also use Facebook, Twitterific and Mobile Flickr.

My case is silicone.... I really like it.

I will have to get that geeky fun lightsaber app. Have you seen the iBeer? Another silly and fun bit of goofiness.

P.S. Missed you at BlogHer this year.

I love the new iphone too!! I downloaded Urban Spoon immedietly when I got my phone but I noticed they are added apps daily.

Today I downloaded a Wordpress app that lets me edit my blog on the go. The New York Times one is great too. Now, I read articles when I'm in line anywhere.
