Wegman's Ultimate White Cake!

I just tried the new Wegman's Ultimate White Cake. If you think they couldn't top the Ultimate Chocolate Cake, think again. I got a little one (I love the wee size) and it tastes like WEDDING CAKE! I love wedding cake. If I was getting married again I would seriously consider getting a Wegmam's Ultimate White Cake for my wedding cake and I'm not even kidding.

By the way @Wegmans is now on Twitter. You can tell them how much you love their cake.

EasySprouter

I have been looking at sprouters for awhile and I finally settled on this one. I figured how could I go wrong with EasySprouter - The easiest sprouter ever!

The first seeds I tried were alfalfa sprouts.

It really was easy.

We ate some of the sprouts with avocado and tomato in pita pockets. Next up... bean sprouts!

Vintage Cookbook

My mom found this really old cookbook. It has some interesting recipes in it...

... but what I really love are the handwritten recipes on the back of the pages.

Who wouldn't want to try a Rolly Polly, Fat Cake or Sugar Pie?!

Early Halloween

When I heard the stores were already stocking Halloween items I was indignant.

But they must know what they are doing because like a big sucker I bought a pack of Martha Stewart skull cupcake wrappers...

and a super soft Hallowen t-shirt from Target. Sucker I tell you!

More Julie and Julia

I went to see Julie and Julia a couple weeks ago with my peeps. I loved it. I almost yelled when Amander Hesser (NY Times food writer and author of Cooking for Mr. Latte see blog post here) appeared on screen as herself! I also think you could create a drinking game where you take a drink every time butter appears or is mentioned.

After the movie I started reading the book Julie and Julia. I know some people thought Julia's story in the movie was great but felt Julie's was weak, but I loved the Julie storyline too... because she is a blogger. I could relate to so much of her storyline. The book Julie & Julia definitely has less of Julia in it so I got My Life in France to read alongside.

I really meant to look for a used version of Julia Chlld's infamous cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but everyone must have been thinking the same thing as me because I couldn't find it in the used bookstores. So I had to get a new version with the little movie ad wrap. Oh well!

One of these days I will make something tasty from it!

Summer sandals

I am definitely on a sandal kick this summer.

Especially when I find them on sale for $10. I will miss them when fall arrives.

Sunflower Field

There is a sunflower field on Calkins Road that I was determined to get out and photograph.

It was getting late in the evening when I got there, and I missed the best light but I still took a few shots.

Aaron took a few pics too and we both shot some video.

I recommend if you don't like bees you skip the part between 2:25 and 3:54... Tina this means you. Although Tina did pretty well when I showed up at work with this necklace on.

I like honey bees (maybe because I like honey so much?)... especially the big fat lazy ones that graze on sunflowers. Here is the video.

Pet of the Week

What a cutie! And she likes belly rubs. Well, who doesn't?

Erin - #8207067

Erin is an 8-year-old female German shepherd mix. She is a friendly dog who wags her tail as soon as she sees you and likes to give kisses. She walks well on the leash and loves belly rubs! Erin has lived with other dogs before and got along well with them. We’re recommending that she go to a home without children under 12 and without any cats or small animals. Erin should meet any kids in the house before adoption. - Lollypop Farm

Scooters at Buck Bucks

We finally got our scooters out on the road this season. Aaron's needed a new battery. To celebrate we took them to Buck Bucks.

Hankys

Hayfever season hit me last weekend and I spent an afternoon sneezing and snuffling around. I think these old fashioned hankies I found at Pearl River Mart in NYC are cute and a nice green alternative to the entire box of kleenex I could go through. They remind me of my grandma. She always has a hanky stuffed in her pocket or even up her sleeve.

tealight candle holder

I just ordered this tealight candle holder online. It looks so cool when there is a candle inside. But what was really interesting is how it came in the mail.

It came completely flat.

It's several layers of a punched out thin metal and you bend each layer up. Can you see the little grasshopper on the right hand side?

Mexican grilled corn

We have been getting a lot of corn with our CSA veggies and I wanted to make something different. After a little poking around I decided on Mexican grilled corn.

I even got cotija cheese - a Mexican cheese.

It's pretty easy to make. Grill the ears of corn on the bbq grill. When it's nice and browned, roll the corn in melted butter, smear on some mayo, sprinkle with crumbled cotija cheese, sprinkle with cayenne pepper and then add a spritz of lime juice. That's it! Nom nom!

Method to share

As everyone knows, I am a huge Method fan. I was over the moon when this came in the mail for me... from Method!

Inside there were four little boxes for me to share with friends. Too cute!

I not only love the design of method's products, the way they smell, how well they clean - but the best thing is how everything has natural ingredients. I hope my friends love the samples as much as I do!

Walnut Hill

Aaron got tickets for the Walnut Hill Horse and Carriage Competitions so we went today.

It was a good day because there were mini ponies competing! I had no idea the little guys could pull carts and wagons.

It was the cutest thing! I wonder if I could keep one in my backyard?

Hot Pepper Jelly

In our last batch of CSA veggies, we got some hot peppers.

I didn't know what to do with them until a friend on Facebook recommended hot pepper jelly. Perfect!

This will be so tasty on crackers with cream cheese or on toasted baguette with brie.

Here is my recipe:

1 cup chopped jalapenos peppers
2 cups chopped red bell peppers
5 lbs sugar
3 cups apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 packages Ball Fruit Jell Liquid Pectin

Disolve sugar in the vinegar and lemon juice. Add the peppers and let boil for 2 mintues. Add liquid pectin and let rest for 10 minutes. Fill the jelly jars and let them seal.

Mailing back Preserve

We use Preserve toothbrushes and razors for this reason right here. I love that they are made from 100% recycled plastic like yogurt cups. But I really love that when they are used up, I can mail them back and they will be made into plastic lumber for picnic tables, boardwalks and decks.

Corn on the Cob

We have been getting fresh corn on the cob with our CSA veggies. Sometimes that is all I need for supper! I have been reading about Mexican Corn on the Cob. I think that is what I am going to try with the next batch we get.

Women to Watch luncheon

I started today off at the Women to Watch breakfast where we were paired up with interns that we could chat with. These gals are some smart cookies - great futures ahead of them.

At the luncheon all the honorees sat on stage and were asked one question. There were 950 people at the luncheon to hear what we had to say!

Here I am with my award! What an amazing event! I am so honored to be included with the other women who were recognized!

Bryant Park

I love NYC's Bryant Park. Not just because it's surrounded by some of my favorite things, Kinokuniya Book Store, Kati Roll, Jamba Juice, Crumbs Cupcakes... but I like the park itself.

Tomorrow is the Ad Age Women to Watch luncheon and I arrived in NYC today. I had work to keep up with so Bryant Park with it's free wireless was my makeshift office.

Here are some of the other cool things they have in the park - almost like an outdoor library - books, magazines and newspapers are available in the Reading Room.

There are ping pong tables...

... and after work concerts and book readings. They also show movies and have free yoga sessions.

Most recently discovered is Lily O'Brien's Chocolate Cafe by Bryant Park. Look at that hot chocolate!
